  • Patent number: 4212504
Abstract: The backing device has a back-up roll placed between the housings of a roll stand and the ends of the roll are mounted in the guide windows of the housings. A hydrostatic bearing has a body which rests on the back-up roll and a shell whose internal surface is spaced by a clearance from the barrel of the back-up roll and is provided with pockets. The back-up roll rests by its ends on a supporting beam which is pressed against it by pressure screws. The bearing shell is urged against the roll barrel by hydraulic cylinders mounted between the supporting beam and the bearing body. The chambers of the hydraulic cylinders are connected through respective conduits and throttles to the pockets on the shell internal surface, and there is at least one pocket for each hydraulic cylinder. The pockets and the respective hydraulic cylinders are connected to a single source of fluid under pressure.

  • Patent number: 4211101
Abstract: The invention relates to rolling, and more particularly, to a mill stand roll assembly comprising grooved rolls. A thrust shoulder for each of the rolls, formed on a roll neck, is located inside a thrust hydrostatic bearing placed in a chock secured to a housing. Each thrust has disks each being arranged on both end faces of each thrust shoulder in parallel thereto and forming with the chock a cavity communicating via an orifice in the chock with a source of liquid. Each thrust shoulder having an annular slot coaxial with the corresponding roll for accommodating two washers secured to a chock in a parallel and spacial relationship with one another. A hole in the chock is disposed so as to permit a flow of liquid to pass between the washers. The liquid delivery rate is adjustable with respect to the amount of roll displacement and the roll assembly makes it possible to adjust the mutual arrangement of rolls directly in the process of rolling.

  • Patent number: 4203310
Abstract: The present invention relates to a roll assembly comprising grooved rolls. A neck of each roll is provided with a thrust shoulder placed in a thrust hydrostatic bearing mounted in a chock secured to a housing. The bearing comprises thrust disks each arranged on both end faces of the shoulders substantially parallel thereto. The sides of the disks facing the ends of each shoulder are fitted with hydrostatic pockets communicating with a fluid source. The fluid source, designed for adjustable delivery of fluid, communicates with the hydrostatic pockets of one of the thrust disks of a roll and of the other thrust disk facing it. There is another fluid source with adjustable delivery of fluid communicating with the hydrostatic pockets of the other thrust disks. This enables, by varying the deliveries of the fluid sources, the mutual disposition of the shoulders to be adjusted relative to the thrust disks and thereby permits control over the mutual arrangement of the rolls directly in the course of rolling.
