  • Patent number: 10259510
Abstract: A semitrailer underbody screen and wheel-set fairing kit comprises several panels and fairings for retrofitting on conventional semitrailers. A sectioned panel like fish scales covers the dozens of transverse I-beam cross-members positioned underneath conventional enclosed trailer floors, and carries on down the length of the underbody. A v-hull air deflector is set just beneath these panel covers, ahead of the semitrailer's undercarriage, suspension and tandem rear axle wheels. Such v-hull air deflector splits and aerodynamically “flows” the air being pushed ahead outwards to the sides and around the wheels. The tandem rear axle wheels themselves are completely boxed inside full fenders that cowl over the front, sides, top, and rear. Removable access panels are provided on the outsides of the full fender units for wheel and tire maintenance. The result is significantly less wind drag and noise at highway cruising speeds. Less drag means better fuel economy for the tractor operator.

  • Patent number: 9493197
Abstract: A tractor-trailer wind fairing panel assembly includes two side and one top fairing panels that mount to a truck tractor and aerodynamically bridge the air gap to any fifth-wheel utility trailer being pulled by the tractor. Such fairing panels are hinged on their leading edges so their distal trailing edges can swing a bit to accommodate twisting and turning of the utility trailer during use. The hinges all mount to a cab adapter collar that helps fit the whole to the contoured surfaces of the rear of a typical truck tractor cab. The distal ends of the trailing edges are fitted with inward directed wind seals. Rows of ball bearing pucks are arranged in the crowns of the inward directed wind seals to reduce friction and wear as the fairing panels swing to accommodate the twisting and turning of the utility trailer.

  • Patent number: 8083284
Abstract: The tractor and trailer fairing apparatus providing a fairing of sorts that is fitted between the tractor and trailer. The apparatus side sections are automatically adjustable in length and can also be locked in a desired length. The second panel of the side sections and trailer towed by the tractor are fitted with a tracking assembly that sees the side panels follow the trailer during driving, whether straight or in turns, and ensuring that no wind enters the sides of the tractor/trailer union. Further, the optional telescopic spoiler prevents air entry from above. The apparatus not only prevents buffeting but also serves to increase fuel mileage.
