  • Patent number: 4850601
Abstract: The invention relates to a seal, consisting of an elastomer shaped ring, which is to be pushed onto a cylindrical circumferential surface and supports itself on the latter by a radially acting sealing surface, with an embedded inner ring, consisting of a chamber portion, likewise to be pushed onto the circumferential surface, with a sealing chamber, which surrounds the shaped ring, is undersized relative to the outer contour of the shaped ring and conically widens from the clear inside diameter of the chamber portion toward one face of the chamber portion, and consisting of fastening means which fix the chamber portion with respect to a second surface resting against the face of the chamber portion. For sealing off a cylindrical surface with respect to a second surface standing vertically on the cylindrical axis, it is proposed that the shaped ring have an axially acting sealing surface, preferably lying at right angles to the radially acting sealing surface, for contact with the second surface.

  • Patent number: 4717179
Abstract: A pipe union for joining two pipe ends in an end-to-end relationship. On each pipe end a flange, at least one clamping element, and one chamber element are fitted , which can be braced against one another and which among them enclose a shaped seal, each of whose two axial ends protrudes into a respective adapted recess of the chamber elements covering the seal. The seal is an outer elastomer ring supported on the jacket faces of the two pipe ends and has a central annular groove open to the inside. An inner ring that overlaps the butt joint is loosely pressed into this central annular groove. The clamping elements are supported with a radially inwardly located clamping rim on the associated pipe end, and with a radially outwardly located clamping rim on a clamping face disposed concentrically with respect to the pipe ends.

  • Patent number: 4667988
Abstract: Disclosed is a clamping element, in the form of an annular disk, for a pipe coupling between the ends of two butt-joined pipes. Each pipe carries a flange or the like loosely slipped onto its respective end. The flanges may be braced against one another, and each flange is provided with a clamp chamber into which a clamping element placed onto each of the pipe ends fits. The clamping element is held on the end of the pipe by means of an inner, radial clamping edge. A clamping surface of the clamp chamber overlaps the clamping element with respect to an outward, radial clamping edge. The clamping element has such a configuration in the axial direction that an axial compression force applied to the element results in an increase in its external diameter and a decrease in its internal diameter. This results in a seal which surrounds the impact point of the joint.
