  • Publication number: 20040026526
Abstract: A railway wheel/rail squeal suppression, wheel/rail noise reduction and wear reduction arrangement includes a separate structure (14) carried by a rail. The separate structure has a saddle-like profile including a web portion (15) defining a running surface for supporting the wheel, and two flange portions (16a, 16b). The saddle-like profile is shaped substantially in conformity with the shape of the railhead, is located on top it and is mechanically de-coupled therefrom. Resilient means (17) is interposed between the web portion and the railhead (13). The web portion (15) has a thickness not less than about twice the thickness of the flange portions so as to resist detrimental compression of the resilient means (17) and transfer only a portion of wheel load to the rail, and the flange portions (16a, 16b) are connected to the rail so as to transfer a remaining wheel load thereto.

  • Patent number: 4396312
Abstract: A road surfacing (3) which emits reduced rolling noise and a method for the manufacture of such a road surfacing is disclosed. The road surfacing material is relatively soft and incorporates air-permeable, preferably intercommunicating channels or pores. In the manufacture of the surfacing, granulate or chip particles (4) are bound so that channels or pores are formed between the particles.

  • Patent number: 4369825
Abstract: The present invention discloses a vehicle tire, which radiates low external tire/road rolling noise and comprises a rim (1) to the periphery of which a multiplicity of in axial direction separated sub-tires (5) are attached, each of which has an outer diameter/sectional width ratio (2r/b), which is greater than 8. These individual sub-tires are, for further improved noise characteristics, entirely filled with soft rubber or a soft plastic material.

  • Patent number: 4340103
Abstract: The invention discloses a vehicle tire with reduced rolling noise emission. The tire tread is provided with one or more air-permeable channels or pores (6), which serve to neutralize air pressure differences between different parts of the tread surface in road contact, for example on each side of a tread block in a tread pattern. The invention also discloses how these channels or pores can be created by piecewise vulcanization of rubber or plastic balls or otherwise shaped rubber or plastic bodies of which the tread is built up so that communicating channels or pores remain between such bodies.
