Patent number: 11793320Abstract: A pocket spring mattress for use in a bedding or seating product is disclosed. The mattress comprises a plurality of interconnected coil springs enclosed in continuous covers forming strings of pockets accommodating the coil springs. Adjacent coil springs within each string are spaced apart by an interjacent separation distance, said separation distance exceeding at least 20 percent of the diameter of the largest one of the spiral turns of the adjacent coil springs. Further, the pocket spring mattress further comprises a cushioning pad located above the upper end of each coil spring, wherein the covers provides first compartments enclosing the coil springs, and second compartments enclosing the cushioning pads, said first and second compartments being separated from each other. The cushioning pads each have a length extension in the longitudinal direction of the strings exceeding the diameter of the largest one of the spiral turns of the corresponding coil spring.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 2019Date of Patent: October 24, 2023Assignee: Starsprings ABInventor: Nils Eric Stjerna

Patent number: 10334957Abstract: A mattress arrangement, such as a bed arrangement, is disclosed, comprising an upper mattress and optionally an lower mattress. The mattresses are preferably pocket spring mattresses. A support structure is arranged beneath the upper mattress, and comprises at least one flexible elongate element arranged to extend between two holding elements arranged at opposite sides of at least one variable zone in the bed arrangement. A retraction device is further arranged to control the slack of said flexible elongate element(s) by controlling the length of the flexible elongate element(s) being provided between the holding elements. Hereby, the height and/or firmness of the bed arrangement is controlled in the variable zone(s).Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 2014Date of Patent: July 2, 2019Assignee: STARSPRINGS ABInventors: Kenneth Edling, Bengt Häger, Nils Eric Stjerna

Patent number: 10278512Abstract: A bed arrangement including adaptive properties is disclosed. The bed arrangement includes a mattress including at least one zone including independently adjustable firmness and/or height, a drive unit arranged to adjust the firmness and/or height of the at least one zone and at least one sensor. The sensor(s) is adapted to measure a physical parameter which is relatable to a lying position used by a user. Further, a control unit is arranged to determine, based on input from the sensor(s), the present lying position of a user. The lying position is determinable to be one of a set of at least two predefined lying positions. Further, the control unit controls the drive unit to adjust the firmness and/or height of the zone(s) to preset firmness/height value(s) corresponding to the determined lying position. Hereby, an automatic adaption of the bed properties to various lying positions is obtained.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 2013Date of Patent: May 7, 2019Assignee: STARSPRINGS ABInventor: Nils Eric Stjerna

Patent number: 9554656Abstract: A spring mattress with longitudinal strings comprising a plurality of interconnected coil springs (1) enclosed in covers (2) is described, wherein a plurality of such parallel strings are arranged side by side and interconnected by surface attachment between abutting surfaces. Furthermore, a slit is provided between at least two springs located adjacent to one another within the same string, which slit allows an increased interjacent separation distance (SA) to be formed between, said adjacent springs. Also described are a method and a device, respectively, for manufacturing a corresponding mattress.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 2004Date of Patent: January 31, 2017Assignee: STJERNFJADRAR ABInventor: Nils Eric Stjerna

Patent number: 8176589Abstract: A spring mattress is disclosed including a plurality of strings interconnected side by side, each string including a plurality of continuous casings and each casing including a coil spring. Further, in at least one embodiment, at least one of the casings in at least one of the strings includes a plurality of stretch openings into the interior of the casing, wherein at least some of said stretch openings are displaced in relation to each other in a lengthwise direction of the spring. At least one embodiment of the present invention also relates to a method and a device for manufacturing of such a mattress, as well as to a bed adapted for such a mattress.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 2008Date of Patent: May 15, 2012Assignee: Stjernfjadrar ABInventors: Nils Eric Stjerna, Kenneth Edling

Patent number: 8011046Abstract: A spring mattress for beds is disclosed. In at least one embodiment, the spring mattress includes a plurality of strings which are interconnected side by side and include a continuous casing material with a plurality of separate pockets with coil springs enclosed therein. Moreover the casing material for at least some pockets is at least substantially airtight, thus providing a resistance to air being pressed out when the springs of the mattress are loaded, which, when subjected to a uniform load during a transition period, results in a gradually increasing depression of the spring to its depressed state. This results in a comfortable mattress, into which the user sinks gradually and which thus is comfortable and safe and allows the user to move easily. A corresponding method and device for manufacturing such a mattress are also described.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2007Date of Patent: September 6, 2011Assignee: Stjernfjadrar ABInventor: Nils Eric Stjerna
