  • Patent number: 10883137
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods for detection of nucleotide polymerase activity and methods of detecting compounds that modulate nucleotide polymerase activity, by detecting product formation of the nucleotide polymerase to be tested based on determination of close proximity of two labeled nucleotide probes able to bind the product of the nucleotide polymerase. It is preferred that proximity dependent energy transfer, such as forster resonance energy transfer, between said labeled nucleotide probes is determined. The invention further provides kits comprising components for carrying out the inventive methods for detection of nucleotide polymerase activity.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 8008540
Abstract: The invention relates to a transgenic mouse model with deficient respiratory chain function in dopamine (DA) neurons. By suppressing or deleting the mitochondrial transcription factor A (Tfam) in DA neurons, a mouse model is obtained, which reproduces key pathophysiological features of Parkinson's disease (PD), i.e., slow progressive loss of DA terminals in striatum and loss of DA neurons in substantia nigra pars compacta; alpha-synuclein immunoreactivity including intracellular inclusions similar to Lewy bodies in affected areas prior to and during cell loss; progressive movement disorder associated with abnormal gait, tremor and rigid limbs. The mouse model can be used to develop pharmacological, gene therapy or cell therapy treatments for PD.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 7, 2005
Date of Patent: August 30, 2011
    Assignee: Kampavata AB
Inventors: Nils-Göran Larsson, Mats Ekstrand, Lars Olson

  • Publication number: 20040253728
Abstract: Apoptosis can be induced in a mammalian cell by administering a substance capable of impairing mammalian mitochondrial DNA gene expression to said cell in such an amount that apoptosis is induced. Certain antisense nucleic acid molecules specifically binding to nucleic acid molecules encoding proteins affecting mitochondrial gene expression are preferably used. The invention also provides novel such antisense nucleic acid molecules and pharmaceutical compositions containing the novel compounds. The invention also describes the use of an in vitro assay consisting of TFAM, TFB1M, TFB2M, mtRNAP and a mtDNA promoter fragment, to identify substances that inhibit or stimulate mtDNA transcription.

  • Patent number: 6256198
Abstract: In cooling electrical devices (205) a Laval nozzle, is used for obtaining a cooling effect. The nozzle can be located close to the electrical device (205), which it is intended to cool, whereas the unit (209) supplying the nozzle with air, for example a fan or a compressor, can be located at another location. This is very advantageous when the electrical devices (205) to be cooled are located at locations hard to reach or access, such as in the top of antenna (201). The supplying unit (209) can then be located at the foot of the antenna where repair and service is easy to carry out.
