  • Publication number: 20170161155
Abstract: Operating a data processing and storage apparatus to perform continuous backup monitoring for a collection of stored file system objects. In response to changes respective to a number of the file system objects, a set of Data Management Application Program Interface (DMAPI) events is created. For each of the events, accessory file system object information relative to a file system object subject to the change is determined. The events are grouped into an event group and a unique group identifier and an overall group size count are assigned to each of the events included in the event group. The events are sent together with the respective accessory file system object information, the respective group identifier and the respective group size to a number of backup clients registered as applications. The backup clients are to process the events together with the respective accessory file system object information, the respective group identifier and the respective group size into a number of backup requests.

  • Publication number: 20170116188
Abstract: For data backup and recovery based on linked file repositories with each of the linked file repositories representing an individual file system capable of storing at least one version of a file and being connected to at least one server system, each of the linked file repositories are placed in a certain position for storing a certain version of the file. Each position of each of the linked file repositories is continuously numbered. A number of the versions of the file are determined by the position of the one of the linked file repositories.

  • Patent number: 9607004
Abstract: A method for migrating files from a source server to a target server are disclosed. The method includes determining file property information for one or more data files on the source server. One or more data file entries are created in a file property table with the file property information for each data file. A data file entry is selected from the file property table. The file property information of the selected data file entry from the file property table is compared to the file property information of the corresponding data file stored in the source server to determine whether there is a match. In response to determining a mismatch, the data file in the source server is copied to the target server. The data file copied to the target server is verified to be the same as the data file of the source server.

  • Patent number: 9563858
Abstract: An artifact repository can be queried for a set of different pre-existing presentation artifacts based on requirements and constraints of a presentation event to produce a query result. The query result can comprise a set of presentation artifacts suitable for satisfying at least a portion of the requirements and constraints. The querying can match the artifact specific metadata against the requirements and constraints to produce the query result. An agenda comprising a set of different agenda items can be automatically constructed utilizing the query result. Each of the different agenda items can occupy a time slot of the presentation event. Creation of agenda items can be a non-manual effort automatically determined by a computing device in a data driven manner given the requirements, the constraints, and the pre-existing presentation artifacts of the artifact repository. Resources for the different agenda items can be automatically booked.

  • Patent number: 9557928
Abstract: Various embodiments for autonomic reclamation of data stored on at least one sequential storage media are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, active data is identified, read out, and stored in a sequential order by starting at a beginning block address of the at least one sequential storage media. At least one of a start address, an end address, and a data length of all original blocks of the active data in a backup application is defined. A new start address for each original block of active data to be written to the backup application is generated. A mapping is yielded and sent from the backup application to a sequential storage media device having the at least one sequential storage media, and the active data is read from each original block address in sequential order.

  • Patent number: 9536085
Abstract: In a data management system, examination of first data for malicious content by a malicious content scanner is initiated in response to a request to write first data to a data storage device. In response to the examination revealing no malicious content in the first data, the first data, a first signature representative of a version of the malicious content scanner at a time of the examination of the first data, and second data linking the first signature to the first data as read-only data are written to the data storage device.

  • Patent number: 9524102
Abstract: A mechanism is provided for optimizing migration/copying of de-duplicated data from an internal storage system to a removable storage system. A preliminary number of clusters to be generated are determined for sets of data objects stored on the internal storage system based on a number of the sets of data objects. The preliminary number of clusters is generated based on shortest distances between the sets of data objects, each cluster comprising one or more sets of data objects and each set of data objects comprising one or more chunks of data. A chosen cluster is identified from a set of clusters by identifying a cluster having a greatest number of common chunks within as few sets of data objects. Responsive to an export-size of the chosen cluster failing to exceed the available storage capacity of the removable storage system, the chosen cluster is exported to the removable storage system.

  • Publication number: 20160364156
Abstract: Performing automated and self-adjusting backup operations by executing the following steps: Determining a time of last backup operation for a data block. Obtaining an audit trail based on the time of last backup operation for the data block and a current time. Ordering read operations and write operations of the data block into a chronological sequence based on the audit trail. Generating a weighting element for read operations and a weighting element for write operations of the data block such that a weighting of read operations are greater than or less than the weighting of a write operations. Calculating a weighted sum of weighted read operations and weighted write operations for said data block. Respond to a result of a comparison between the weighted sum and at least one threshold value by performing a type of backup operation.

  • Patent number: 9497026
Abstract: For authorizing removable medium access, a reassembly module retrieves a medium portion of an encryption key from a removable medium. The encryption key encrypts encrypted data stored on the removable medium and includes a plurality of portions. The reassembly module further retrieves the user portion of the encryption key assigned to a user requesting the removable medium. The reassembly module reassembles the encryption key using at least the medium portion and the user portion of the plurality of portions. The decryption module decrypts the encrypted data with the reassembled encryption key.

  • Patent number: 9483196
Abstract: Various embodiments are provided for virtualizing and managing a storage virtualization system (SVS) in a storage management architecture. Source data is copied from the source storage media to target data in a target storage media based on a predefined copy policy in a copy mapping table. A relation between the source data and the target data is tracked in a copy mapping table. It is determined if a copy of the requested data exists using the copy mapping table. Tiered storage policies are configured in a migration mapping table pertaining to the SVS, and a source storage media is mapped to a target storage media and a migration policy.
