  • Patent number: 7482424
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for production of polymeric hydroxylalkyl terminated polysulphides, whereby monomeric hydroxylalkyl terminated polysulphides are reacted with formaldehyde in the presence of an acid catalyst in the form of a solid acid, in particular, an acidic ion exchanger, in which the reaction water and optional added solvent and catalyst are separated off. The products are characterized by a very high uniformity (low polydispersity) and can advantageously be functionalized with subsequent reactions.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 16, 2005
Date of Patent: January 27, 2009
    Assignee: Akzo Nobel N.V.
Inventors: Michael Zeitler, Nils Kottner, Manfred Bergfeld
  • Patent number: 7423183
Abstract: A process for preparing dihydroxyethylene disulfide by reacting mercaptoethanol with oxygen, in which mercaptoethanol is reacted with oxygen or an oxygenous gas in the presence of ammonia and/or amines using copper salts or manganese salts.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 31, 2004
Date of Patent: September 9, 2008
Assignee: Thioplast Chemicals GmbH & Co. KG

  • Publication number: 20060287466
Abstract: A method for the production of prepolymers by reaction of polysulphides with polyepoxides is disclosed, whereby polyepoxides are reacted with polysulphides, having at least two mercapto groups, in the presence of quaternary ammonium compounds as catalyst. The method permits a rapid quantitative reaction and gives uniform products with regard to functionality and the proportion of functional groups per weight unit. The products thus produced have stable, may be stored, may be cured in a very reproducible manner, or may be processed to give products with a defined property profile.

  • Publication number: 20050131207
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for producing polymeric polysulfides containing terminal epoxy groups, according to which polysulfides containing terminal thiol groups are reacted with an excess of epichlorohydrin and alkaline lye, water is azeotropically distilled away with epichlorohydrin, the epichlorohydrin-containing epoxidized polysulfide solution is separated from the eliminated salt, the epichlorohydrin is distilled away, and the residue is optionally purified by means of thin film distillation. The reaction product is particularly suitable for the production of high-quality sealants, adhesives, and coatings. Said product has a high degree of purity and an extremely low chlorine content. The inventive method does not require any additional organic solvents and is very environmentally friendly.

  • Publication number: 20050119449
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing polymer polysulfides comprising epoxy end groups, by reacting polysulfides comprising thiol end groups with epichlorohydrine in the presence of aqueous alkali lye. According to the invention, the polysulfide comprising thiol end groups is optionally dosed with aqueous soda lye into a recipient containing epichlorohydrine and optionally aqueous alkali lye, and the reaction mixture is finished. The inventive method is carried out in one step and has considerable advantages in terms of process technique. It especially enables savings to be made in terms of measuring and regulating techniques and enables energy to be saved. Furthermore, it is essentially risk-free and very environmentally friendly, and therefore enables pure products to be produced.
