  • Patent number: 10169847
Abstract: An air-to-air background-oriented Schlieren system and method for measuring and rendering visible density changes in air that cause a refractive index change by an airborne vehicle. A sensor aircraft equipped with a high-speed visible spectrum camera travels at low airspeed on a predetermined route and on a level altitude over a background having consistent contrast and sunlight reflectivity. The target aircraft, traveling on the same predetermined route but at an altitude between the sensor aircraft and the ground (background) passes beneath the sensor aircraft. The camera on the sensor aircraft captures a series of images including a reference image immediately before the target aircraft enters the image frame followed by several data images as the target aircraft passes through the image frame. The data images are processed to calculate density gradients around the target aircraft. These density gradients include shockwaves, vortices, engine exhaust, and wakes.

  • Publication number: 20050050226
Abstract: Systems and methods for controlling access by users that are not uniquely identified on a network to one or more devices that are coupled to the network through a device such as a router. In one embodiment, a router that couples one or more storage devices such as tape drives to an IP network maintains one or more tables to control access by devices on the IP network to the storage devices. Each table lists a set of the storage devices. One or more of the devices connected to the IP network are associated with each of the tables and are authorized to access the storage devices identified in the corresponding table. The IP devices are uniquely identified and associated with the tables using corresponding usernames and passwords with which the devices log onto the IP network.

  • Patent number: 5818667
Abstract: A rotating disk memory apparatus includes an actuator assembly electrical interconnect. Flex circuit tape retainers are provided to substantially reduce and ideally eliminate torque forces on the actuator due to flex circuit bending. The retainers includes a tape guide having an inner wall to conform those portions of the flex circuit proximate both an actuator body member and a base plate connector member to predetermined configurations, such as loops providing a design specific exit angle for the flex circuit at each retainer. The looped portion of the flex circuit is held in the guide by a selectively detachable guide post device. The predetermined configuration is designed to minimize the torque on the actuator from inherent spring forces generated due to bending of the flex circuit during actuator motion relative to the rotating disk.
