  • Patent number: 7086302
Abstract: Apparatus for reducing backlash in a gear wheel that includes at least two interacting gear rims that rotate in relation to one another. An adjusting mechanism is located between the gear rims for adjusting the relative angle of rotation of the gear rims about a common axis of rotation. Each adjusting mechanism includes an hydraulic cylinder connected to a pressure medium source and which is arranged to act between the two gear rims in such a manner that a force arises that tends to displace one gear rim in relation to the other about the axis of rotation. Each of the hydraulic cylinders extends at an angle to a disk plane and is supported on a part-spherical foot portion in a bowl-shaped seat in one gear rim and a corresponding part-spherical head portion in a bowl-shaped seat in the other gear rim.

  • Patent number: 6895753
Abstract: Apparatus and method for supplying sealing air to an exhaust turbine (15) that interacts with an internal combustion engine for turbo-compound operation in a vehicle. Exhaust gases from the internal combustion engine are received in an exhaust system having a supercharger turbine (11) and which drives a compressor (13) for the engine combustion air. Residual energy in the exhaust gas flow is recovered via the exhaust turbine (15) for transfer to the crankshaft of the internal combustion engine. The exhaust turbine (15) is supported in a bearing housing (32), which is fed with sealing air via a fluid line (36). The exhaust system includes an exhaust brake throttle (16) having an exhaust gas pressure regulator (22) for regulating the exhaust brake pressure. The exhaust gas pressure regulator (22) is connected via a compressed air line (28) to a compressed air source (29, 30), which can be connected in parallel to the bearing housing (32) via a prioritizing valve (35) and a compressed air line (36).

Abstract: Method and device (15) for pressure control in a combustion engine (1) with a crankcase (11) to which crankcase gases are guided during operation of the engine. The valve device (15) is adapted for detecting the current pressure in the crankcase (11) and for opening and closing, respectively, a connection (35) between the crankcase (11) and a suction pipe (9) of the engine depending on the detected pressure. The valve device (15) includes a first valve (19) which is adapted for assuming a condition between a first, opened position and a second, closed position depending on the detected pressure in the crankcase (11), and a second valve (20) which is adapted for assuming a condition between a first, opened position and a second, closed position depending on the condition of the first valve (19). • Patent number: 6725661
Abstract: Valve device for evacuation of a gaseous medium under overpressure from a space (3) includes a valve housing (1a) with an opening (2) to the space (3); a valve disc (6) cooperating with a valve spindle (8), sealing the opening in the closed position of the valve and, disposed in a cylinder (12), a control plunger (13) which, via a spring, biases the spindle and thus the valve disc towards the closed position. When pressure medium with a predetermined control pressure is supplied, the plunger is lifted from the valve spindle, whereupon the force from a balancing spring (11) and the medium pressure in the space (3) act in the valve opening direction, while the force of the control pressure acting on the spindle (8) loads the valve disc in the closing direction.

  • Patent number: 6709477
Abstract: Device for separating oil mist from blow-by gases from an internal combustion engine, comprising a rotating cylindrical container (17) with a central inlet (23) for gases with oil mist at one end and a central outlet (24) for gases and peripheral outlets (25) for separated oil at the other end. Between the inlet and the outlet, narrow channels (34) extend in several layers, spaced from the axis of rotation, through which the gas with oil drops flows. Under the influence of the centrifugal force the drops of oil are moved at the same time radially, the rotational speed and the length and radial dimension of the channels being adapted to each other so that the oil drops strike the channel walls before flowing out of the channels.

  • Patent number: 6544143
Abstract: An engine brake application system for an internal combustion engine. The engine has at least one cylinder, at least one exhaust valve associated with the cylinder, and a rocker arm for activating the exhaust valve. The rocker arm is arranged on a hollow rocker shaft having a regulator responsive to an increase in oil pressured in the hollow rocker arm shaft and incorporated into the rocker arm for taking up clearance between the rocker arm ant the exhaust valve. To effect a reduction of engine speed during a gear shift, the system includes an actuator responsive to a signal generated in response to a need to effect a gear shift for rapidly increasing the oil pressure in the hollow rocker arm shaft to thereby effect valve clearance take-up.

  • Patent number: 6539926
Abstract: A fuel delivery system having a fuel reservoir connected to a suction side of a pump, a fuel delivery line connected to an output side of the pump, a number of fuel injectors connected to the delivery line, and a return line from the injectors to the suction side of the pump. The pump has a housing, a pumping chamber within the housing, a driver rotor and a driven rotor within the pumping chamber, and an input shaft t the housing. The input shaft is arranged such that rotation of the input shaft effects rotation of the driver rotor. The driver rotor is caused to rotate by the input shaft via a magnetic coupling. The magnetic coupling is arranged to slip when a predetermined value of torque is applied across the coupling such that a maximum pressure value of about 12 bar is attained at the output side of the pump.

  • Patent number: 6363918
Abstract: A pump arrangement is disclosed having a housing, a first pumping chamber within the housing, a drive shaft carried by the housing, and first pumping means arranged for rotation within the first pumping chamber. The first pumping means is driven by the drive shaft. A second pumping chamber accommodating a second pumping means is separated from the first pumping chamber by the housing such that the housing forms common separation wall. To provide a compact arrangement in which the first and second pumping chambers are reliably sealed from each other, the second pumping means is driven by the drive shaft via a magnetic coupling. Thus, the coupling comprises a drive rotor connected to the drive shaft and a driven rotor carried by the housing. The driver rotor and the driven rotor are separated by a separation wall assembly serving as a static seal to hermetically seal the second pumping chamber from the drive shaft.

  • Patent number: 6269792
Abstract: The engine includes in at least one engine cylinder, an extra exhaust valve operated by a hydraulic plunger cylinder device. The engine has a fuel system with a unit injector, the cam and rocker arm of which also drive a pump arrangement, which has a pump chamber communicating with the low pressure side of the fuel system. The plunger of the plunger cylinder device is loaded by the pressure in the pump chamber. When a valve disposed in the communication between the fuel system and the pump chamber is closed, the fuel volume enclosed during the pump stroke will displace the plunger, opening the exhaust valve.
