  • Patent number: 9554132
Abstract: Compression transforming video into a compressed representation (which typically can be delivered at a capped pixel rate compatible with conventional video systems), including by generating spatially blended pixels and temporally blended pixels (e.g., temporally and spatially blended pixels) of the video, and determining a subset of the blended pixels for inclusion in the compressed representation including by assessing quality of reconstructed video determined from candidate sets of the blended pixels. Trade-offs may be made between temporal resolution and spatial resolution of regions of reconstructed video determined by the compressed representation to optimize perceived video quality while reducing the data rate. The compressed data may be packed into frames. A reconstruction method generates video from a compressed representation using metadata indicative of at least one reconstruction parameter for spatial regions of the reconstructed video.

  • Patent number: 9535806
Abstract: A storage system failure detection and failover application includes a command execution engine that loads and interprets both user-defined storage system management functions, and vendor-defined storage system management functions. The user-defined storage system management functions allow the system to detect and handle failure conditions indicating both the current state of an active storage system, and the current state of one or more applications that consume a storage service or services provided by the active storage system. The user-defined storage management functions also allow the system to perform failover processing in a way that allows applications to perform application-specific processing during storage system failover.

  • Patent number: 9438849
Abstract: Systems and methods for transmitting video frames are described. Specifically, frame rate modification techniques such as blending and/or packing processes are used to translate high frame-rate signals into low-frame rate signals, which are transmitted over limited bandwidth transmission media to a video signal receiver. Information pertaining to the blending and/or packing processes is transferred to the video signal receiver in the form of a map that is used to reconstruct the high frame-rate signals from the low-frame rate signals. The high frame-rate signals may be used by certain types of newer equipment designed to use such signals. However, legacy equipment that cannot use the high frame-rate signals may opt to use certain embodiments described herein that are designed to be backward-compatible. When backward-compatible, the video signal receiver generates suitable low frame-rate signals as well as the high frame-rate signals, thereby accommodating both legacy as well as newer equipment.

  • Patent number: 9380591
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for a femtocell to reduce interference with an overlapping macrocell. The femtocell determines soft-frequency-reuse (“SFR”) information of the macrocell. From that information, the femtocell determines which frequency subchannels are assigned by the macrocell for its cell-center users and which frequency subchannels are assigned for cell-edge users. (Cell-edge users are given a higher transmission power profile in order to overcome potential interference with neighboring macrocells.) Then, the femtocell selects from the cell-center user frequency sub-channels for transmission to the femtocell's users. By transmitting on the cell-center user frequency sub-channels, the femtocell reduces interference with the overlapping macro cell. The femtocell continues to update its knowledge of the macrocell's SFR information and re-assigns frequency sub-channels as the SFR changes.

  • Patent number: 9317676
Abstract: Techniques for an image-based CAPTCHA for object recognition are described. The disclosure describes adding images to a database by collecting images by querying descriptive keywords to an image search engine or crawling images from the Internet. The disclosure describes generating the image-based CAPTCHA. The image is retrieved from the database, along with objects having significant values. An object is cropped from its image. The portion on the image where the object has been cropped is filled with image inpainting. The process obtains other objects from the database. The object is mixed among the other objects to from a set of candidate objects. A user is asked to select “the object” from the set of candidate objects that fits or matches the image. The image-based CAPTCHA evaluates whether a response, the selection, is from a human or a bot.

The harmonic oscillator includes a dielectric body and at least one responding unit attached onto a surface of the dielectric body, where the responding unit is a conductive structure having a geometrical pattern. The application further relates to a cavity filter having the harmonic oscillator and an electromagnetic wave device. By using the harmonic oscillator in the application, a permittivity can be effectively increased and a resonance frequency of a cavity filter can be decreased, thereby implementing miniaturization. Moreover, for an electromagnetic wave in a TM mode, a frequency can be decreased and an electromagnetic loss is not affected.
