Patent number: 8519824Abstract: A modular environment for a vehicle. The modular environment may include a configurable service space with a mounting system within the vehicle that has a number of modules configured to releaseably engage the mounting system. The module environment also may include a service space control system able to electronically communicate with and identify at least one of the modules. The modular environment may also include an arch framework that supports a number of fixed modules and a number of configurable modules. A further embodiment is shown of a method for using a service space control system that controls a modular environment for a vehicle having a configurable service, and including a mounting system configured to releaseably engage a number of modules in a service space. The service space control system electronically communicates with and can identify at least one of the modules and limit its use to only authorized users.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 2010Date of Patent: August 27, 2013Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Richard L. Patent number: 8519951Abstract: A method and apparatus for displaying an image of terrain obtained from a position above the terrain. An image of an object is detected in the image of the terrain for an object that is positioned between the terrain and the position above the terrain. The detected image of the object is replaced in the image of the terrain with replacement image data. For example, the replacement image data may be image data for the terrain below the object. The image of the terrain with the replacement image data may be displayed. The method and apparatus may be used to replace images of clouds in images of the surface of the earth below an aircraft with image data for the surface of the earth below the clouds.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 2010Date of Patent: August 27, 2013Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Bethany L. Patent number: 8474274Abstract: A cold tray for a container may have an interior. The cold tray may include a cold tray housing mountable within the container interior. A refrigerant may be mounted to the cold tray housing. An air flow source may be fluidly connectable to the cold tray housing and may draw air from the container interior into the cold tray housing such that the air passes over the refrigerant and is discharged back into the container interior.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 2010Date of Patent: July 2, 2013Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: James P. Schalla, Karen L. Hills, Nino Senoadi, William Quan

Patent number: 7777718Abstract: A flight portal apparatus for displaying a virtual view of a surface of the earth below an aircraft. The apparatus comprises a data processing system and a display device, connected to the data processing system, wherein the display device is positioned to generate a display that is substantially horizontal relative to a floor of an aircraft in a manner that simulates a portal in the aircraft. A camera system is connected to the data processing system, wherein the camera system generates video data of the surface of the earth below the aircraft. A user input system is connected to the data processing system.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2006Date of Patent: August 17, 2010Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Bethany L. Franko, Domenic S. Patent number: 7717510Abstract: The specification discloses a modular transportation seating assembly that includes a support frame and seats mounted on the frame. The frame includes a seat beam and a cantilever beam. The cantilever beam includes a body and a connector inserted into the body and held together by compressive force. The body has an end defining a plurality of receivers, and the connector includes a plurality of lugs each received within one of said receivers. The seat beam includes a body, a tee nut slidably received within the body, a second connector outside the body, and a fastener intersecuring the two connectors to retain them in position along the length of the body. A single fastener intersecures the connectors on the seat beam and the cantilever beam. The seat includes a flange hooked about the back edge of the seat beam and one or more fasteners connecting the seat to the forward edge of the seat beam.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 2008Date of Patent: May 18, 2010Assignee: American Seating CompanyInventors: Bernard A. Herold, III, David I. Wolf, Douglas L. Fassett, Trevor R. Haney, Douglas G. Oswald, Brady A. Olason, Jeffrey D. Allison, Scott A. MacInnes, Nino Senoadi
