Abstract: A wood and rubber composite sheet comprises a wood layer, preferably plywood, having a first surface and a layer of cured masticated rubber secured to said first surface. An adhesive material, such as Chemlock™ is disposed between said first surface and said rubber layer. A method of manufacturing the composite plywood and masticated rubber sheet comprises the steps of: providing a layer of wood having an outer surface; providing a layer of uncured masticated rubber upon said outer surface; heating and pressing said layers together so as to cure and bond said rubber layer to said outer surface of wood. An adhesive material may be disposed between the rubber layer and outer surface prior to heating and pressing.

Abstract: Provided is a laminate of masticated rubber. A layer of fabric, capable of withstanding vulcanization temperatures, such as a non woven layer of polyester or polyester and nylon is bonded by means of vulcanization to at least one outer surface of the rubber laminate. Advantageously, this increases the stiffness of the rubber laminate. Further advantageously and unexpectedly, the fabric reinforced rubber laminate in accordance with the invention shows significant improvement in heat aging properties, such as heat resistance, tensile strength, hardness and tear strength.
