Abstract: A vehicular backup assist system includes an upper sensor disposed at a rear upper portion of a vehicle and sensing rearward of the vehicle at a height relative to ground of the rear upper portion of the vehicle, and a lower sensor disposed at a rear lower portion of the vehicle and sensing rearward of the vehicle at a height of the rear lower portion of the vehicle. The system, during a reversing maneuver of the vehicle, and via processing at an electronic control unit of sensor data captured by the upper and lower sensors, detects presence of objects rearward of the vehicle. During the reversing maneuver, the system, via processing of sensor data captured by the upper sensor, detects presence of an object at the height of the rear upper portion of the vehicle and alerts a driver of the vehicle of the detection of the object.
