Abstract: A method and system for securing portable electronic devices as well as access to data on the portable electronic device is described. The method consists of a proximity alarm that alarms if the physical device is carried away from the user mobile phone, or from some fixed stations. The method consists of separating the keys from the storage device where the data is stored by storing them on a FOB. When access to data is requested, the key is reconstituted in real-time by wirelessly obtaining data from the FOB and from the user, and the data is decrypted. The system provides for secure transmission of keys in real-time, and provides safeguards in case of breach of security.

The second part can monitor proximity to a mobile phone when not used as a headset and alarm if the mobile phone is not in proximity. The second part can also serve as a wireless key for unlocking one or multiple doors, personal electronic devices and/or encrypted data. When the user acquires a new lock, the wireless key can be updated to unlock that new lock.
