  • Publication number: 20240035444
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to methods (100, 200) for ramping up the power output of a wind turbine (10). A method (100) comprises increasing (110) electric power output from an initial power value (61) at a first power ramp rate (63); and when reaching an intermediate power value (69), increasing (120) the electric power output to a target power value (59) at a second power ramp rate (67) different from the first power ramp rate (63). The intermediate power value (69) is the sum of the initial power value (61) and a predetermined power difference (71).

  • Patent number: 11569769
Abstract: A method for operating a power generation system having a drivetrain connected to an electrical grid during one or more grid transient events includes receiving an indication of the one or more grid transient events occurring in the electrical grid. The method also includes selecting between a first set of drivetrain damping control settings or a different, set second set of drivetrain damping control settings based on the indication. The first set of drivetrain damping control settings is for handling a single, first grid transient event, whereas the second set of drivetrain damping control settings is for handling additional, subsequent grid transient events following the first transient event. The method also includes controlling the power generation system based on the selected first or second sets of the drivetrain damping control settings such that the power generation system can remain connected to the electrical grid during the grid transient event(s).

  • Patent number: 11401918
Abstract: A system and method are provided for controlling a wind turbine. Accordingly, a controller of the wind turbine detects an oscillation in the power output of the wind turbine during a recovery from a transient event. In response to detecting the oscillation, a portion of the power output during a peak phase of the oscillation is stored in an energy storage device. A portion of the stored power is then discharged during a valley phase of the oscillation in order to reduce an amplitude of the oscillation of the power output that is delivered to the power grid.

  • Patent number: 10871145
Abstract: A system and method for preventing voltage collapse of a wind turbine power system includes receiving a power input value and a voltage input value from a point of common coupling of the wind turbine power system. The method also includes determining a limit cycle reference point of the wind turbine power system as a function of the input values. The method further includes comparing the limit cycle reference point to at least one predetermined threshold. If the limit cycle reference point is greater than the at least one predetermined threshold, the method includes determining a delta value for the real and reactive voltage commands of the wind turbine power system. Further, the method includes determining updated real and reactive voltage commands based on the delta value. As such, the method also includes operating the wind turbine power system based on the updated real and reactive voltage commands.
