  • Patent number: 11968809
Abstract: A system and a method of providing electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) protection. A removable component is inserted into an end product. The removable component includes a retractable EMC protection apparatus. In response to the insertion of the removable component a shape memory alloy on the EMC protection apparatus is heated to a temperature above the activation temperature of the shape memory alloy. The shape memory alloy then changes from a first shape to a second shape in response to the heating. In response to the change in the shape of the shape memory alloy an EMC protection component of the EMC protection apparatus is inserted into an enclosure opening of the removable component.

  • Publication number: 20240111643
Abstract: An approach for managing and minimized failure of one or more devices in a computerized cluster and/or vehicle infrastructure is disclosed. The proactive approach for mitigating such black swan events as it relate to hardware failures (e.g., servers, network, vehicle systems/architecture, etc.). The approach would proactively inactivate “suspect” components (i.e., components that are completely functional in multiple systems) based on component vintage data from systems where components have failed or malfunctioned. A dedicated service is actively updating suspect components and their respective vintages spread across various systems. Furthermore, the approach backups components using different vintages are effectively utilized to avoid complete system failure.

  • Patent number: 11936236
Abstract: Selective discharging of a rechargeable battery pack across a power supply system load is provided, which includes determining occurrence of a condition within the power supply system, the power supply system including a power supply circuit and a backup energy source. The power supply circuit receives main input power, and the backup energy source is operatively coupled to the power supply circuit to supply backup power to the system load when main power input to the power supply circuit is unavailable. Based on determining occurrence of the condition within the power supply system, a controller actively discharges a rechargeable battery pack of the backup energy source. The actively discharging includes controlling the power supply circuit to force discharging of power from the rechargeable battery pack to the power supply system load by suspending the main input power within the system from powering the system load.

  • Publication number: 20240072373
Abstract: A system and method for flushing the electrolyte out of an electrolyte flushable battery apparatus during a thermal runaway event. At least one condition of the electrolyte flushable battery apparatus is monitored to detect a potential thermal runaway event based on the at least one condition exceeding a threshold value. In response the inlet valve and outlet valves on the battery apparatus are opened. A flushing liquid is flushed or pumped through the battery apparatus where the flushing liquid enters the apparatus through the inlet valve and leaves the apparatus through the outlet valve. The flushing liquid is then stored in a reservoir.

  • Patent number: 11877390
Abstract: Methods of fabricating tamper-respondent sensors with random three-dimensional security patterns are provided. The methods include establishing a security circuit pattern for a security circuit of a tamper-respondent sensor to enclose, at least in part, one or more components of a circuit board within a secure volume. The establishing includes determining in three-dimensions boundaries for the security circuit of the tamper-respondent sensor. The boundaries define a sensor volume which the security circuit is to fill in three dimensions. The establishing also includes generating at least one trace configuration for the security circuit pattern. The at least one trace configuration defines a random, three-dimensional security pattern to fill the sensor volume, and the at least one trace configuration establishes, at least in part, the security circuit pattern. The process further includes fabricating the tamper-respondent sensor based on the established security circuit pattern.

  • Patent number: 11871550
Abstract: A system and method for controlling an EMC protection apparatus in a removable component. The removable component is inserted into an end product. As a result of the insertion power is applied to the EMC protection apparatus. A determination is made as to whether a power good signal is detected within the removable component. In response to a power good signal, an EMC protection device is rotated from a retracted state to an engaged state such that the EMC protection device is placed over an enclosure opening in the removable component forming an EMC seal. Full functionality of the removable component can be delayed until such time as the rotation is completed.

  • Publication number: 20230409023
Abstract: Described are techniques for artificial intelligence (AI) assisted recommendations for component parts for end-products that reduce the occurrence of a product failures. The techniques include obtaining measurement data for groups of component parts configured to be assembled as part of an end-product. The techniques further include obtaining specification scores for the component parts included in the groups of component parts based on the measurement data. The techniques further include selecting a component part combination from the groups of component parts using artificial intelligence analysis of the specification scores to determine that the component part combination decreases a probability of a product failure as compared to historical occurrences of the product failure. The techniques further include outputting information for at least one component part included in the component part combination.

  • Patent number: 11846679
Abstract: Rechargeable battery monitoring and control is provided using a non-linear rate-of-change failure threshold. A non-linear rate-of-change failure threshold is obtained indicative of an operational state abnormality in a rechargeable battery cell, and during the operational state of the rechargeable battery cell, a control compares an actual voltage rate-of-change of the rechargeable battery cell to the non-linear rate-of-change failure threshold. Based on the actual voltage rate-of-change of the rechargeable battery cell exceeding the non-linear rate-of-change failure threshold, the control identifies the operational state abnormality in the rechargeable battery cell. Based on identifying the operational state abnormality in the rechargeable battery cell, the control discontinues the operational state of the rechargeable battery cell.

  • Patent number: 11757296
Abstract: A method comprises an active discharge manager, integrated with a smart cable, detecting a connection of the smart cable to a battery and/or a discharge-load and detecting a connection coupling the battery and the discharge-load. Responsive to the detecting the connections, the active discharge manager determines a transfer status of the battery and the discharge-load. Based on the transfer status, the active discharge manager initiates a discharge process that transfers energy from the battery to the discharge-load. The active discharge-manager can determine a second transfer status of the battery and the discharge-load and, based on the second transfer status, terminate or modify the discharge process. The smart cable can be re-usable, and the discharge-load can make productive use of the energy transferred to the discharge-load. A system can comprise a battery, a discharge-load, and a smart cable to perform the method to discharge the battery into the discharge-load.
