  • Publication number: 20110172704
Abstract: Supersaturated gel formulations including a solution of chitosan, albumin, and a laser specific chromophore. Laser tissue welding methods using the gel formulations of the present invention are also described. In the methods, the gel formulation of the present invention is provided to a site for tissue repair and the laser specific chromophore within the gel is excited with a laser in order to fuse tissue by inducing protein denaturation. The gel formulations and laser tissue welding methods may be used, for example, to enable skull base repairs, aerodigestive endoscopic repairs, endoscopic endonasal surgical repairs, iatrogenic esophageal perforation repairs, laparoscopic abdominal surgical repairs, lung repairs, colon repairs, anastomosis of vessels, urologic/gynecologic endoscopic pelvic repairs, orofacial surgical repairs, dental replacement, skin closure, uterine closure and repairs after fibroidectomies and bladder surgery.

  • Publication number: 20090307732
Abstract: Apparatus (20) for digital media distribution includes a plurality of client devices (26) coupled to a network (24). Each client device is configured to receive and play a primary digital broadcast media stream from a first server (22) and to receive, via the network, an indication of an interval in the primary digital broadcast media stream in which secondary content is to be played on the output device. A control subsystem (36) transmits to the client devices, via the network, a message identifying at least one second server (34) that is to provide the secondary content. The message causes the client devices to suspend reception of the primary digital broadcast media stream at the start time while connecting to receive the secondary content from the at least one second server so as to play the secondary content during the interval.

  • Publication number: 20090064242
Abstract: A method for digital video distribution in which a program is transmitted as a multicast stream over a network at a base rate. The stream includes a sequence of frames encoding video data, the sequence containing anchor points. A request from a client to begin receiving the program is received at a time subsequent to a given anchor point in the multicast stream. Responsively to the request, a boost stream is transmitted to the client beginning from the given anchor point at an accelerated rate relative to the base rate. The boost stream causes the client to display the video data beginning from the given anchor point and then to join the multicast stream when the boost stream has reached a point of synchronization with the multicast stream.

  • Patent number: 7412149
Abstract: A method for generating a trick replay video stream, including the steps of: selecting from stored data adapted for transmission as a streamed movie a sequence of Intracoded frames (I-frames), and inserting one or more difference frames between consecutive I-frames of the sequence to form the trick replay video stream. Each of the difference frames is constructed to have a zero difference with respect to a preceding I-frame in the sequence. The method further includes transmitting the trick replay video stream to a decoder for display of the streamed movie at an enhanced perceived rate.

  • Publication number: 20060291475
Abstract: A method for selective forward error correction of a data stream is disclosed. The method comprises: identifying data segments of different importance and assigning them with corresponding levels of priority; and generating forward error correction data corresponding to only to data segments assigned with levels of priority above a predetermined level of priority.

  • Publication number: 20060143669
Abstract: A method for digital video distribution includes transmitting a multicast stream over a network. Upon receiving, at a time subsequent to a first anchor point and prior to a second anchor point in the multicast stream, a request from a client to begin receiving the multicast stream, a boost stream is generated, including at least a portion of the video data in the frames between the first and second anchor points. The boost stream is transmitted to the client during an interval between the time at which the request was received and the second anchor point in the multicast stream, so as to cause the client to display the video data beginning from the first anchor point. Upon completing transmission of the boost stream, the multicast stream is transmitted to the client beginning from the second anchor point.

  • Publication number: 20060031892
Abstract: A method for delivering digital media includes transmitting a stream of the digital media to be played by a client at a predefined play speed, the stream comprising main content and, in predetermined intervals, differentiated content. In response to a request from the client to pass over a portion of the stream at a speed different from the play speed, the client is permitted to pass over the main content in the portion of the stream at the different speed, but is constrained to play the differentiated content in at least one of the intervals in the portion at the play speed.

  • Patent number: 6057832
Abstract: A method and apparatus for processing a coded data stream of video information (e.g., video-on-demand) for selective display according to a Normal PLAY Mode or a Fast PLAY Mode, by splitting the coded data stream into (a) anchor data constituted of anchor picture frames (e.g., I-frames) coded without reference to other picture frames, and (b) complemental data (e.g., B-frames and P-frames) complementing the anchor data; storing the anchor data in an anchor data file and the complemental data in a complemental data file; upon the selection of a Normal PLAY Mode, combining the data of both the anchor data file and the complemental data file to recompose and display the video information; and upon the selection of a fast PLAY mode, displaying only the data of the anchor data file.

  • Patent number: 5847703
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for browsing through a motion picture in order to locate desired segments in the motion picture, frames are selected from sequential parts of the motion picture according to predetermined sampling critera, e.g., "by time", "by tag" or "by change". Each selected frame is reduced in size such that the screen can accommodate the simultaneous display of "n" frames. The frames are displayed sequentially at "n" sequential locations on the screen according to a predefined closed loop, each frame being displayed in its respective location for a time interval starting with a time delay "t.sub.D " after the start of the display of the frame at the preceding location in the loop and continuing until the loop has been completed with another frame displayed in its respective location. Thus, only the selected frames need be viewed in order to locate a desired segment, but each selected frame may be viewed for an extended time interval, equal to "nt.sub.D ".
