  • Patent number: 8435236
Abstract: An apparatus for treating varicose veins includes a catheter (20) where the distal end is placed within a varicose vein and the proximal portion remains outside the body of the subject. A heating element (22) heats the vein. A cooling element (62) can be applied to an external surface of the skin above the vicinity of the heating element. A control unit (26) can drive the heating element to apply heat to the vein simultaneously. Alternatively, the control unit can apply a current to the heating element to resistively heat a resistive element. A method for treating a varicose vein includes inserting the elongated heating element into the vein, and driving the heating element to apply heat to the segment of vein simultaneously from the entire active heating portion.

  • Patent number: 8366706
Abstract: Systems, apparatuses and methods are provided for use in closing punctures in vessel walls. An apparatus may have various combinations of an anchoring device, a positioning device and a heating element for closing a puncture within a vessel wall. An anchoring device may be a balloon, an expansible cage, a wire operated T-anchor, and/or a floating anchor. A positioning device may be a balloon, a sponge, and/or an expansible cage. A heating element may be flexible or rigid and preferably provides heat to target tissue through conduction and convection. A heating element may be flat-ended or dome-shaped. The heating element and anchoring device may be positioned a fixed distance apart to sandwich tissue between the heating element and the anchoring device. The heating element may operate in multiple stages. An initial stage may non-permanently adhere the heating element to the tissue and the subsequent stage may close the puncture.

  • Patent number: 7991968
Abstract: Systems and techniques relating to managing a queue memory include, in some implementations, a method comprising: retrieving stored data from an oldest read entry in a FIFO queue memory having entries formed in hardware upon a first read operation; retrieving stored data from a selected entry in the FIFO queue memory upon a second read operation; and shifting data stored in entries of the FIFO queue memory with respect to the oldest read entry upon the first read operation and with respect to the specified entry upon the second read operation. In addition, some implementations include a queue memory comprising a hardware device having memory entries to receive and store data from a communications interface, wherein the queue memory supports first-in-first-out read operations and out-of-order read operations with data shifting among the entries of the memory relative to a read operation.

  • Patent number: 7334091
Abstract: The present disclosure includes systems and techniques relating to FIFO queue memory. In general, in one implementation, a queue memory receives and stores information and supports first-in-first-out read and out-of-order read operations with information shifting within the memory relative to a read operation. The queue memory can include a write pointer that increments upon a write operation and decrements upon the read operation, a read pointer that identifies an oldest read entry of the queue memory when the read operation is a first-in-first-out read and that identifies a selected entry of the queue memory when the read operation is an out-of-order read, and a multiplexer operative to select entries of the queue memory responsive to the read pointer.
