The locking mechanism selectively releases the objects from one another in response to the movement of a third object. The locking mechanism includes a latch having a base, a pivoting portion attached to the base, with the pivoting portion configured to pivotally secure the latch to the first object about an axis (A). The latch also includes a securing portion attached to the base. A receiving surface is configured to contact the second object as it comes into proximity with the first object and pivot the latch about the axis (A) in a first direction. The securing portion also includes a hook configured to automatically secure the second object to the first object when the objects are adjacent to one another.

The assembly has a lower drawer and an upper drawer, and a slide structure having a first portion mounted to the upper drawer and a second portion mounted to the lower drawer to facilitate movement of the drawers. The lower drawer and upper drawer are independently movable between their respective open and closed positions. The apparatus includes a central frame structure carrying a lock member that enables the upper drawer to be locked in the closed position.

The container unit also includes a latch engaging structure. The dock unit is constructed and arranged to be fixed to a truck bed. The docking unit includes a latch arranged to releasably lock the latch engaging structure so as to releasably lock the container unit to the dock unit. The dock unit carries a release member that is movable to release the latch and thereby release the container unit from the dock unit. Another aspect of the invention provides for the dock unit to include the latch engaging structure and the container unit to include the latch and release member.
