  • Patent number: 4473329
Abstract: A drilling machine is provided with a quill feed device for reciprocating a quill, a driving member and a driven member, disposed between a spindle rotatably supported by the quill and a driving source therefor in such a manner as to produce a relative angular displacement therebetween according to magnitude of a load applied on a tool held by the spindle, a detector generating a series of pulse signals correlated to the relative angular displacement between both members, a counter numerically counting the pulse signals generated from the detector in respect of one rotation of the spindle, a memory memorizing numerical data, corresponding to the relative angular displacement while the tool being separated from a workpiece, counted by the counter device, and a comparator for comparing the value memorized in the memory and an actual counted value in the counter.

  • Patent number: 4446746
Abstract: An apparatus for detecting torque transmitted between two rotary members. A driving member and a driven member are connected via a transmission spring, permitting relative angular displacement therebetween. On either one of the two rotary members a wheel disk having a number of slits arranged in a circle is provided. A detector, such as a photocoupler, for detecting the slits is disposed on a frame adjacent to the wheel disk. A shutter disk with a shutter portion for partially covering the slits is attached to the other rotary member at an opposed posture to the wheel disk. The number of slits detected by the detector is varied according to the relative angular displacement between the driving member and the driven member while they are in rotation, and the torque between both rotary members may be numerically determined from the number of slits detected.

  • Patent number: 4421441
Abstract: A drilling machine provided with a feed control device. The feed control device includes a hydraulic cylinder to be engaged with a quill, which is reciprocated by a pneumatic feed device, on the forward midway thereof, a slidable member disposed on a frame in such a manner as to be able to move by a predetermined distance in the movement direction of a ram of the hydraulic cylinder, and coupling device retained on the slidable member for linking the slidable member and the ram. When the quill is once returned backwards in the course of a drilling cycle the ram is also returned backwards together with the slidable member by the predetermined distance, and when the quill is moved forward again the quill is engaged with the ram at a position a little short of the position where the previous drilling cycle was interrupted for being switched there from rapid speed down to slow speed.

The quill is moved, until it is engaged with the projecting portion in the forward moving thereof, at a rapid feed speed and after the engagement at a controlled feed speed by the feed control device. The liquid tank has a pair of openings arranged such that either one of the two may constantly come under the liquid surface in the tank no matter in what posture the machine frame may be attached to the stand.

  • Patent number: 4350212
Abstract: A drilling machine comprises a quill, pneumatic cylinder for reciprocating the quill in the forward and backward direction, a feed control device which includes a liquid cylinder parallelly disposed to the quill and provided with a piston assembly with a projecting portion engageable with the quill for controlling the advancing speed of the quill, one-way clutch for allowing the piston assembly only the forward movement thereof by engaging with the projecting portion of the piston assembly, and an operation control device for repeatedly reciprocating the quill. The quill is advanced firstly at a rapid speed; upon engaging with the projecting portion of the piston assembly, the quill is advanced at a regulated speed by the liquid cylinder. When the quill has completed several times of reciprocation movement under the control of the operation control device, one working cycle is finished.
