  • Publication number: 20120300162
Abstract: To form an optical alignment film having large anchoring strength and suppress an AC afterimage of a liquid crystal display device, in a liquid crystal display device of an IPS mode. In an alignment film material subjected to optical alignment processing, polyimide which becomes a rigid high molecule and polyimide which becomes a flexible high molecule are mixed and used. The material of the present invention can easily rotate oligomer after irradiating polarized ultraviolet rays and improve a UV-absorbed two-color ratio of an alignment film. Accordingly, an anchoring strength for liquid crystals by the alignment film is large to suppress an AC afterimage.

  • Publication number: 20120268678
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to enhance transmissivity and the luminance of a screen in an IPS liquid crystal display device. To achieve the object, in the IPS liquid crystal display device according to the present invention, a counter electrode is formed flatly and solidly on an organic passivation film, a pixel electrode having a slit is formed on the counter electrode via an interlayer insulation film, and an alignment film the orientation of which is controlled by optical orientation is formed on the pixel electrode. The transmissivity is enhanced by also making the inside of the contact hole function as a transmissible area for image formation by applying optical orientation to the alignment film in the contact hole to result in enhancement of the luminance of the screen.

  • Publication number: 20120224114
Abstract: The present invention prevents the shaving of an alignment film caused by a columnar spacer in a liquid crystal display device of an IPS method using photo-alignment. A plinth higher than a pixel electrode is formed at a part where a columnar spacer formed over a counter substrate touches a TFT substrate. When an alignment film of a double-layered structure is applied over the pixel electrode and the plinth, the thickness of the alignment film over the plinth reduces by a leveling effect. When photo-alignment is applied in the state, a photodegraded upper alignment film over the plinth disappears and a lower alignment film having a high mechanical strength remains. As a result, it is possible to prevent the shaving of the alignment film.

  • Publication number: 20120224131
Abstract: In the step of curing a resin for bonding a TFT substrate and a counter substrate each having an alignment film that has been optically aligned by using UV-light, damage to the alignment film due to the UV-light can be prevented without using a light shielding mask. A UV-light absorption layer is formed between each black matrix on the counter substrate. The TFT and counter substrates are sealed at their periphery by a resin that is cured by UV-light radiated from the counter substrate side. Since the absorption layer has a high absorbability to UV-light at a wavelength of 300 nm or less that degrades the alignment film, damage to the alignment film due to the UV-light for curing the resin can be prevented. Thus, provision of a light shielding mask for shielding the UV-light for the display region can be saved.

  • Publication number: 20120057115
Abstract: An IPS liquid crystal display device intended to prevent generation of second image sticking after generation of initial DC image sticking. An alignment film has a two-layer structure comprising an upper alignment film and a lower alignment film. The upper alignment film is an optical alignment film formed of a polyamide acid ester as a precursor. The lower alignment film has a lower resistance value than the upper alignment film and also has a low photoconductive property. The lower alignment film is formed not using, as a precursor, a polyamide acid using PMDA as the starting material but using, as a precursor, the polyamide acid containing a sulfonic acid group or a carboxylic group, whereby the difference of the resistance between portions undergoing or not undergoing light irradiation in the pixel is decreased and generation of second image sticking can be prevented.

  • Publication number: 20120058702
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display device having a TFT substrate and a counter substrate, and prevents brightness unevenness from being caused by orientation film thickness unevenness. Orientation films for the TFT substrate 10 and the counter substrate 20 are formed by offset printing that is performed to transfer an orientation film material from a printing plate to the TFT substrate 10. The direction in which the printing plate for an offset printing machine rotates during offset printing is the long-axis direction of the TFT substrate 10 in the case of the TFT substrate 10 or the short-axis direction of the counter substrate in the case of the counter substrate. This ensures that brightness unevenness caused by orientation film thickness unevenness is inconspicuous even when the orientation film thickness unevenness is produced during offset printing.

  • Publication number: 20110273649
Abstract: Each pixel formed on a TFT substrate includes a pixel electrode, and a TFT, a color filter, an opposed electrode and an insulating film are interposed between the pixel electrode and the TFT substrate. A liquid crystal layer is interposed between the TFT substrate and an opposed substrate. An alignment film is provided on each surface of the TFT substrate and the opposed substrate, the each surface being in contact with the liquid crystal layer. • Publication number: 20110199565
Abstract: This invention enables forming a photo-alignment film having a large LC anchoring strength in an IPS type liquid crystal display device. An alignment film is adapted to have a two-layer structure including a photo-alignment film and an alignment film with enhanced film strength. The photo-alignment film is formed of a precursor of polyamide acid ester, 80 percent or more of which is polyamide acid ester including cyclobutane. The alignment film with enhanced film strength is formed of a precursor of polyamide acid. After irradiating the substrate with ultraviolet light for photo-alignment, the substrate is heated. Thus, it is possible to achieve a high LC anchoring strength of the alignment film as the whole for photo-alignment, without degrading the mechanical strength of the alignment film with enhanced film strength.
