    Abstract: A welding gun includes first and second movable arms, and first and second welding electrodes. The first and second movable arms are movable upward and downward. The first and second welding electrode are disposed respectively on the first and second movable arms. The welding gun is capable of performing a first mode in which the first and second welding electrodes are brought into contact with one side of a workpiece to weld the workpiece, and a second mode in which the workpiece is sandwiched by the first and second welding electrodes to weld the workpiece. The first and second welding electrodes are pivotally supported by the first and second movable arms, respectively. Each of the first and second welding electrodes has a rotatable roller shape. The first movable arm includes a first slide mechanism configured to allow the first welding electrodes to slide to below the second welding electrode.

    Abstract: A welding assistance member with electrically-conductive properties is used for spot-welding performed by sandwiching a second member between electrically-conductive first members different in material from the second member. The welding assistance member is fitted into a hole extending through the second member so as to allow for spot-welding of the first members to each other from opposite sides in the hole. The welding assistance member includes: a main body that has a size and shape that allow a gap to be formed between the main body and an inner side surface of the hole when the main body is fitted in the hole; and a position maintaining component that is provided at an outer side of the main body, has heat, heat resisting, and electrically insulating properties, and maintains the main body in a separated state from the inner side surface. A spot-welding method uses this welding assistance member.

    Abstract: There are provided a spot welding apparatus and a spot welding method. A workpiece is clamped between a combination of a second welding electrode and a receiving unit that abut against a thinner plate, and a first welding electrode that abuts against a second thicker plate, a pressure is applied to the workpiece by the first welding electrode, and a current is passed between the welding electrodes. Consequently, a satisfactory nugget is formed over from the thinner plate to the second thicker plate. Similarly, a workpiece is clamped between a combination of the first welding electrode and the receiving unit that abut against a thinner plate, and the second welding electrode that abuts against a second thicker plate, a pressure is applied to the workpiece by the second welding electrode. Consequently, a satisfactory nugget is formed over from the thinner plate to the second thicker plate.
