  • Patent number: 4210505
Abstract: In a method for coating an article by electrodeposition which comprises: immersing the article to be coated in a bath comprising a powder containing electrodeposition coating composition comprising a water thinnable cationic synthetic resin which is a nitrogen-containing basic resin partially neutralized with an acidic compound and a synthetic resin in the form of fine powder which is solid at a room temperature but can melt when heated;employing as a cathode, said article to be coated;and applying a voltage between the cathode and plural anodes placed in the bath, the improvement which comprises positioning the above-mentioned anodes to face the respective surface of said article to be coated and controlling the amount of coating on the respective surfaces of said article by regulating the quantity of electricity allowed flowing to each anode.

  • Patent number: 4208261
Abstract: An improvement in a method for coating an electrically conductive article by electrodeposition, wherein the article, as the cathode, is immersed in an aqueous bath containing a basic resin, at least partially neutralized with an acid compound, and a particulate synthetic resin, is provided. The improvement is the conducting of the electrodeposition continuously while adding a replenishing supply liquid to the aqueous bath to maintain a constant bath composition. The composition of the replenishing supply liquid is such that (a) the proportion of water is smaller than in the initial aqueous bath, (b) the proportion of the basic resin to the acid compound is larger than employed in the initial partial neutralization, and (c) the particulate synthetic resin is also present.

  • Patent number: 4208262
Abstract: A process for coating an article is provided herein, which process comprises subjecting an article to a powder electrodeposition in a bath containing a water-thinnable cationic synthetic resin and a synthetic resin in the form of a fine powder, and then subjecting the thus coated material, without hardening the formed coating, to an additional electrodeposition in a bath containing an ionic synthetic resin and baking the coated article to effect cross-linking and hardening between the resins; the improvement step which is characterized in spraying hot water of more than 50.degree. C. onto the coated film after finishing the first half powder electrodeposition, but before carrying out the second half electrodeposition step.

  • Patent number: 4201644
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for replenishing an electrodeposition coating bath by subjecting to an ultrafiltration, an electro-deposition bath liquid which has been decomposed with time under a pressure of 0.2-3.0 kg/cm.sup.2 changing the direction of the bath liquid during the ultrafiltration step so as to cause the liquid to flow in opposite directions in the ultrafiltering apparatus; recycling the concentrate obtained from the ultrafiltration to the electrodeposition coating bath for the purpose of adjusting the liquid characteristics of the bath and using the thus-obtained filtrate, obtained from the ultrafiltration, the diluent for preparing a replenishing supply liquid.

  • Patent number: 4192728
Abstract: A method for supplying powder into a coating tank for electrophoretic powder coating comprises a first step for taking out a specified amount of plating bath of which the powder contained therein is reduced as a result of coating work, a second step in which the powder of much the same amount as the reduced amount of the powder is supplied to the plating bath taken out while the plating bath is being agitated to disperse the powder in the plating bath (the first dispersion) to form supplementary plating bath, a third step including the step for second dispersion of the powder in which the powder contained in the supplementary plating bath is further uniformly dispersed and a step for aging the supplementary plating bath with the dispersed powder, and a fourth step for supplying to the coating tank sufficiently aged supplementary plating bath which is obtained from the third step and has a high density of powder which is substantially uniformly dispersed in the supplementary plating bath, and an apparatus is o

  • Patent number: 4177123
Abstract: A method for supplying binder into a coating tank for electrophoretic power coating comprises: a step for transferring into a solid/liquid separation tank a proper amount of plating bath liquid contained in the coating tank of which the binder component is reduced as a result of the work for coating a given number of articles; a step in which the plating bath liquid is left as it is so as to form supernatant liquid and residual liquid; a step for agitating the supernatant liquid in a supernatant tank; a step for returning the residual liquid to the coating tank; a step for supplying mother binder liquid corresponding in amount to the reduced binder component to a mixing tank; a step for transferring a given amount of the liquid in the supernatant liquid tank into the mixing tank; a step in which a proper amount of plating bath liquid in the coating tank is supplied into the mixing tank while being agitated to form replenisher or supplementary bath liquid; and a step for supplying the replenisher bath liquid i
