    Abstract: A seamless can having a bottom section and a body section, wherein a thermoplastic resin coating is formed on an outer surface side of the can over a polyester-based paint film. The polyester-based paint film includes a polyester-based paint composition which contains a colorant in an amount of 20 parts by mass or less relative to 100 parts by mass of a total resin solid content and a curing agent in an amount of 5 to 43 parts by mass relative to 100 parts by mass of a polyester resin, and an entire outer surface of the can including the bottom section is colored. Also disclosed is a resin-coated metal sheet for forming a seamless can including the thermoplastic resin coating that is applied over a polyester-based paint film on a surface of the metal sheet, the polyester-based paint film having a thickness of 7 ?m or less.

    Abstract: A thermoplastic resin-coated metal sheet obtained by coating at least one surface of a metal sheet with a thermoplastic resin via a polyester type primer, wherein the polyester type primer, if it is in the form of a 10 ?m-thick dry primer sheet, has a breaking elongation in a range of 9 to 200% at a tension speed of 1000 mm/min. and an MEK extractability in a range of 3 to 40%. Without using a special thermoplastic resin-coated film or surface-treated metal sheet, therefore, the cans and can lids can be formed using the thermoplastic resin-coated metal sheet of the invention maintaining excellent and close adhesion during the working, preventing the can body from breaking and the thermoplastic resin coating from peeling at the flange-forming portion during the working, the cans and can lids excelling in dent resistance and economy.

    Abstract: In an electrical discharge machine that applies a voltage between an electrode and a workpiece to generate electrical discharge, an electrode holder holds the electrode. An ultrasonic motor has a fingertip that comes into contact with electrode holder, and moves electrode holder in a driving direction by moving the fingertip in an annular manner at an ultrasonic-range frequency. A roller bearing guides the movement of the electrode holder in the driving direction. A control circuit controls a position of the electrode in the driving direction by driving the ultrasonic motor, and moves the electrode holder based on an abnormality occurring in resistance against the movement of the electrode holder in the driving direction such that the electrode holder is moved by a movement distance equivalent to when the largest roller element among a plurality of roller elements of the roller bearing rolls and rotates once without sliding or longer.

    Abstract: An improved method of machining slots and material feed holes in a molding die such as an extrusion die designed to form a honeycomb structure of ceramics employed as a catalyst carrier of a catalytic converter for automotive vehicles. In one of the preferred embodiments, shallow holes are drilled in a die material and subjected to electrochemical machining to remove material from the bottoms of the shallow holes so that they communicate with the material feed holes without any burrs. In the other embodiment, the slots are cut using a rotary cutter in a given order which will balance reaction forces exerted on the cutter from both side walls of each slot to minimize deformation of the cutter during cutting of the slots, thereby preventing the slots from being curved undesirably.
