  • Patent number: 5861921
Abstract: There is provided code amount control in which information data are input in predetermined units and a code amount is estimated in each of a plurality of stages, including a final stage. A calculation result is obtained based on a target code amount and the estimated code amount, for each stage. A short code amount and an excess code amount are updated based on the calculation result, and quantization parameters used upon encoding are controlled in accordance with the short code amount and the excess code amount obtained at the final estimation stage. Also provided is code amount control for controlling a code amount in units of second blocks, each consisting of a plurality of first blocks, each consisting of a plurality of sample value data, which discriminates quantization parameters which result in a code amount less than a predetermined amount when a second block of data is encoded using the quantization parameters. The discriminated quantization parameters are adjusted on a unit basis of the first block.

  • Patent number: 5444542
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for quantizing data obtained by transforming image data to a frequency zone so as to encode it. The speed at which such an apparatus performs processing is increased. Data is quantized on the basis of a plurality of coefficients C.sub.1 for controlling a quantizing step. As a result of the quantization, reference encoding data items Nb1 to Nb4 are obtained. Coefficients C5 to C7 for controlling the quantizing step are generated when image data which is delayed by one frame is quantized. At this time, the data items Nb1 to Nb4 are output by bit-shifting the result of the quantization.

  • Patent number: 5353063
Abstract: In an image display method and apparatus for displaying image data, it is determined, based upon a control code contained in received image data, whether the image data is whole image data in one frame or partial image data in one frame. When it is determined that the image data is partial image data, the content of a memory being displayed is transferred to another memory, and the partial image data is stored in the memory which is the destination of the transfer. When the transfer of the data to the memory which is the destination of the transfer ends, the content of this memory is read and displayed.

  • Patent number: 5196932
Abstract: In an image signal processing apparatus, first image data and second image data comprising a plurality of different sample data are input at the same time and are output sequentially following processing wherein data is subjected to thinning-out in direction horizontally of a screen so as to make locations of vertical direction screen data different from each other between the odd-number field period and the even-number field period. The thinned-out sample data are prediction-coded to output prediction-coded data, thus resulting in a substantial reduction of data quantity without deteriorating picture quality.
