    Abstract: A resistance welding apparatus mounted on a robot arm includes a transformer having primary and secondary windings. Two gun arms supporting respective welding electrodes in confronting relation to each other are relatively movable toward and away from each other. Conductors extending from the secondary winding are electrically connected to one of the welding electrodes through one of the gun arms, and the transformer is supported on said one gun arm. Rectifiers are used which have terminals engaging said one gun arm and opposite terminals engaging the conductors. The rectifiers and the conductors are securely joined to the one gun arm.

The resin lining is formed by pouring a low-viscosity monomer or prepolymer into the clearance between the bearing surface and the shaft and permitting the monomer or prepolymer to polymerize or cure in situ.     Abstract: Shaped articles of a crosslinked poly(vinylidene fluoride) resin can be prepared in a relatively simple process to be imparted with greatly improved resistance against heat, water, and chemicals in a much higher productivity than in the conventional electron-beam irradiation method. The method comprises the steps of (a) compounding the resin with an organosilane compound having an ethylenically unsaturated group, e.g., vinyl, and at least one alkoxy group in a molecule and a free-radical generator, e.g., organic peroxides, (b) heating the resin compound to effect graft-polymerization of the organosilane compound to the polymer molecules, (c) shaping the resin compound into a desired form, and (d) heating the shaped body in water containing a silanol-condensation catalyst dissolved or dispersed therein.

    Abstract: A broaching method for finishing an outer peripheral surface of a resin layer of a resin-coated lobe-type rotor for a rotary fluid machine of a Roots type, which includes the steps of forming, with a leading grooving cutter, at least one chip-breaker groove in the outer peripheral surface of the resin layer, such that the chip-breaker groove extends in a broaching direction parallel to an axis of rotation of the rotor. The method further includes the steps of finishing at least a portion of the outer peripheral surface of the resin layer with a trailing finish cutter having a cutting edge contour corresponding to the portion of the outer peripheral surface of the resin layer, which is finished by the finish cutter after the chip-breaker groove is formed therein by the grooving cutter. A composite broach or formed broach having the grooving and finish cutters is fed such that the grooving cutter leads the finish cutter in the broaching direction.

The metal part within the powdered mass is induction-heated to a temperature between a melting point and a thermal decomposition point of the synthetic resin, to melt a portion of the powdered mass surrounding the outer surface of the heated metal part, and to deposit the molten portion of the powdered mass on the outer surface of the heated metal part, as the synthetic resin. The metal part is pushed down by a predetermined distance within the powdered mass, at least once at a point of time after the metal part has been positioned in the powdered mass, and before the induction-heating step has been completed.

The metal part within the powdered mass is induction-heated to a temperature higher than a melting point and lower than a thermal decomposition point of the synthetic resin, in order to melt a portion of the powdered mass surrounding the heated metal part, and thereby permit the molten portion of the powdered mass to be deposited as the synthetic resin layer on the outer surface of the heated metal part. To facilitate the placement of the metal part in the powdered mass, air may be blown into the powdered mass to keep the mass in a fluid state.

    Abstract: The synthetic resin rack guide to be housed in a gear box of a rack and pinion type steering device for a vehicle. The rack guide includes a generally semi-cylindrical head, an outer cylinder and an inner cylinder. The generally semi-cylindrical head includes a semi-cylindrical concave surface which slidably contacts a back surface of a rack bar. The outer cylinder is separated from the inner cylinder by a circumferentially extending space and is divided into a plurality of sections in the circumferential direction by a plurality of slits which extend in parallel with an axis of the rack guide. Due to the provision of the slits, the outer cylinder can shrink radially inward when it is inserted into a rack housing with no clearance between them and when an interference between them is increased in proportion to an increase in ambient temperature. Thus, a locking of the rack guide with the rack housing is prevented and a smooth sliding is obtained even with the increase in ambient temperature.

    Abstract: A high-frequency induction system can generally be achieved by detecting noise superimposed on AC power supply which might induce voltages exceeding the given break-down voltage of a switching device and in such cases by temporarily shutting off the power supply to the induction heating system. To implement this, a high-frequency induction heating system, according to the invention, is provided with a noise detector circuit connected to the output terminal of a rectifying circuit rectifying said input AC voltage. The noise detector is designed to detect noise pulses superimposed on an input AC voltage. The induction heating system of the present invention also includes means for disabling a switching device. The disabling means responds to detection of a noise pulse by the noise detector by disabling the switching device and whereby protects the circuit of the induction heating system.

    Abstract: A Roots-type rotary fluid machine having resin-coated rotors fluid-tightly accomodated in a chamber formed in a housing structure which consists of a generally cup-shaped main housing body having a bore closed at its one end and open the other end, and a covering member which closes the open end of the bore in the housing body. The housing body includes a fillet portion which bridges an inner flat surface defining the bottom of the bore and facing one end face of each rotor, and an inner peripheral surface defining the periphery of the bore and facing the outer peripheral surface of each rotor. The fillet portion is formed along a line of intersection of extensions of the inner flat surface and the inner peripheral surface of the housing body, and inwardly into the bore from this line of intersection. The fillet portion has a generally triangular shape in cross section taken in a direction perpendicular to the above line of intersection.
