Patent number: 4806387Abstract: A method of applying a synthetic resin layer to an outer surface of a metal part while the metal part is positioned within a powdered mass of a thermally fusible synthetic resin. The metal part within the powdered mass is induction-heated to a temperature between a melting point and a thermal decomposition point of the synthetic resin, to melt a portion of the powdered mass surrounding the outer surface of the heated metal part, and to deposit the molten portion of the powdered mass on the outer surface of the heated metal part, as the synthetic resin. The metal part is pushed down by a predetermined distance within the powdered mass, at least once at a point of time after the metal part has been positioned in the powdered mass, and before the induction-heating step has been completed.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 1986Date of Patent: February 21, 1989Assignee: Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Shigenori Tamaki, Hiroyuki Machizuki, Nobuo Kobayashi, Takahiro Iwase, Naofumi Masuda

Patent number: 4806388Abstract: A method and apparatus for applying a synthetic resin layer to an outer surface of a metal part while the metal part is placed within a powdered mass of a thermally fusible synthetic resin. The metal part within the powdered mass is induction-heated to a temperature higher than a melting point and lower than a thermal decomposition point of the synthetic resin, in order to melt a portion of the powdered mass surrounding the heated metal part, and thereby permit the molten portion of the powdered mass to be deposited as the synthetic resin layer on the outer surface of the heated metal part. To facilitate the placement of the metal part in the powdered mass, air may be blown into the powdered mass to keep the mass in a fluid state.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 1986Date of Patent: February 21, 1989Assignee: Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Hiroyuki Mochizuki, Nobuo Kobayashi, Shigenori Tamaki, Takahiro Iwase, Naofumi Masuda, Yoshio Taguchi

Patent number: 4800770Abstract: A rack-and-pinion type steering gear for automotive vehicles including a columnar rack guide made of resin having a small coefficient of friction. An outer diameter of the rack guide in the direction perpendicular to the direction of movement of a rack bar is greater than an inner diameter of a rack guide hole for insertion of the rack guide in such a manner that the transverse cross-section of the rack guide is elliptical. With this arrangement, vibration of the rack guide in the rack guide hole due to an external force dynamically acting on the rack bar, thereby preventing generation of noise from the rack guide hole.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 1984Date of Patent: January 31, 1989Assignee: Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Nobuo Kobayashi, Iwao Tanimoto, Atsushi Watanabe, Hiroaki Shinto

Patent number: 4785685Abstract: The synthetic resin rack guide to be housed in a gear box of a rack and pinion type steering device for a vehicle. The rack guide includes a generally semi-cylindrical head, an outer cylinder and an inner cylinder. The generally semi-cylindrical head includes a semi-cylindrical concave surface which slidably contacts a back surface of a rack bar. The outer cylinder is separated from the inner cylinder by a circumferentially extending space and is divided into a plurality of sections in the circumferential direction by a plurality of slits which extend in parallel with an axis of the rack guide. Due to the provision of the slits, the outer cylinder can shrink radially inward when it is inserted into a rack housing with no clearance between them and when an interference between them is increased in proportion to an increase in ambient temperature. Thus, a locking of the rack guide with the rack housing is prevented and a smooth sliding is obtained even with the increase in ambient temperature.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 1987Date of Patent: November 22, 1988Assignee: Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Nobuo Kobayashi, Shigeo Aiba, Shigetoshi Miyoshi, Takahiro Iwase, Tsutomu Sugiura, Takeshi Onogi, Taisuke Nakamura

Patent number: 4757177Abstract: A high-frequency induction system can generally be achieved by detecting noise superimposed on AC power supply which might induce voltages exceeding the given break-down voltage of a switching device and in such cases by temporarily shutting off the power supply to the induction heating system. To implement this, a high-frequency induction heating system, according to the invention, is provided with a noise detector circuit connected to the output terminal of a rectifying circuit rectifying said input AC voltage. The noise detector is designed to detect noise pulses superimposed on an input AC voltage. The induction heating system of the present invention also includes means for disabling a switching device. The disabling means responds to detection of a noise pulse by the noise detector by disabling the switching device and whereby protects the circuit of the induction heating system.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 1986Date of Patent: July 12, 1988Assignee: Sony CorporationInventors: Toshio Suzuki, Nobuo Kobayashi
