  • Patent number: 6120474
Abstract: The present invention provides a blood component-recovering apparatus and a method for high-yield recovery of leukocytes captured in a filter of the blood component-recovering apparatus. The blood component-recovering apparatus includes a housing accommodating (a) a filtration portion charged with (b) a filter which is capable of passing erythrocytes but capturing leukocytes and (c) a pressing member for pressing the filter, the housing being provided in the sidewall thereof with (d) a blood flow inlet and (e) a blood flow outlet communicating with the filtration portion. The housing of the blood component-recovering apparatus is further provided in the upper wall thereof with (f) a means capable of transferring, or moving, the pressing member vertically. The pressing member of the blood component-recovering apparatus is transferred downward while a blood containing blood components is passed through the filtration portion.

  • Patent number: 5754335
Abstract: Before a measurement for an infrared analysis of a sample is performed, a measurement area of the sample is set. In the measurement area setting mode, a camera takes the image of the whole sample, and the image is shown on a display. An image of an aperture is superimposed on the image of the sample in the display. When an operator uses a mouse connected to a controller of the infrared microscope to change the width of the image of the aperture on the display, an aperture signal generator generates an aperture signal corresponding to the width of the aperture image. An aperture image signal generator receives the aperture signal and generates an aperture image signal having the width. Thus the image of the sample superimposed on the image of the aperture in the display changes accordingly, by which the operator confirms the measurement area, i.e., the position and width of the aperture, in the sample.

  • Patent number: 5076836
Abstract: A process for the preparation of ferromagnetic metallic particles for magnetic recording which comprises(I) a step of preparing a slurry of acicular iron oxide hydrate containing nickel and, if necessary, manganese,(II) a step of coating the surface of the above iron oxide hydrate with aluminum-containing iron oxide hydrate, thus giving a slurry containing the coated iron oxide hydrate and free aluminate ions,(III) a step of depositing aluminum and phosphorus and/or silicon on the outside surface of the aluminum-containing iron oxide hydrate, thereby giving a slurry of the iron oxide hydrate thus treated,(IV) a step of subjecting the slurry to washing, drying and dehydrating, reducing the obtained particles, and forming an oxide layer on the surface of the reduced particles.

  • Patent number: 4858279
Abstract: A hose clamp made from a unitary, spring steel band formed into a generally cylindrical configuration. The clamp has a support piece extending radially outwardly from one end of the spring steel band, a slot opening formed in the one end adjacent the support piece and extending a predetermined length in a circumferential direction of the spring steel band, a projecting piece formed at the other end of the spring steel band and fitting in circumferential relationship in the slot opening, and an upstanding tab formed at the distal end of the projecting piece and extending radially outwardly of the spring steel band. With this arrangement, when the spring steel band is deflected to its expanded position, the tab is retained on the support piece so as to temporarily lock the spring steel band in its open or expanded position.

  • Patent number: 4597958
Abstract: In a method of producing a hydrated iron oxide as a starting material for a magnetic powder by aging a suspension of a ferric hydroxide prepared by reacting a ferric salt with an aqueous solution of alkali, the aging temperature is controlled between 20.degree. and 100.degree. C. and pH is controlled between 1 and 6 for the first 5 to 240 minutes while nuclei of hydrated iron oxide crystals generate, and then the aqueous solution of alkali is added again to adjust the pH value to 10 to 13.5 to make the crystals grow. This production method is capable of producing an acicular hydrated iron oxide having a reduced particle-size distribution range and also capable of controlling the length of the crystals as desired.

  • Patent number: 3954215
Abstract: This disclosure relates to an apparatus for friction welding wherein an improved friction welding of a first and a second workpieces are carried out in a manner such that welded and plasticized workpieces are rapidly synchronized and also a larger thrust is provided at only the end stage of the welding so that change of metallic structure of welded workpieces due to cooling which tends to cause cracks in the welded portion is prevented. In order to carry out this improved friction welding, the apparatus for friction welding includes a second driving means for driving the second workpiece, detecting means for detecting the sum of the lengths of welded workpieces capable of providing a signal for interrupting the drive of the first workpiece and hydraulic systems capable of adjusting the thrust according to a signal from the detecting means.
