  • Publication number: 20080130464
Abstract: In a multilayer optical disc having information layers conforming to a plurality of different optical disc standards, because the type of each information layer is not recorded in the other information layers, in read and write operations by a compatible optical disc device conforming to a plurality of optical disc standards, every time the information layer being accessed changes, it has been necessary to read the type of the information layer and select a method of generating a tracking error signal adapted to the type of information layer, so access has taken time. In order to solve the above problem, in the optical multilayer disc according to the present invention, having information layers conforming to a plurality of different optical disc standards, in an area in one of the information layers, information about the other information layers is recorded. The time required to access the other information layers can be reduced by using this information to select a tracking error signal generating method.

  • Patent number: 7349295
Abstract: A lens holder (101) holds an objective lens (4) and a support shaft (103) is inserted in a bearing hole (101a) in the lens holder (101). Light that is emitted from a light source and reflected by an information recording medium enters two light receiving parts, which output currents (I21a, I21b) responsive to the amounts of light received. A controller (109) applies a current (I96) based on the difference between the currents (I21a, I21b) to coils (116a) in an inclination drive unit (106). By interaction between the coils (116a) and magnets (116b), the lens holder (101) is turned on a first axis (I) while the light source and other components are secured. Fluids provided in the bearing hole (101a) further improve the vibration-resisting properties.

  • Patent number: 7274632
Abstract: On an optical disk in a recording and/or playback apparatus, the position at which the thickness error of a light transmission layer is in the optical axis of an objective lens 11, and the position at which the recording/playback of information is performed is in the optical axis of a two-group objective lens 20, so that they are spaced apart from each other, making it impossible to accurately detect the thickness error at the position where the recording/playback of information is performed. Further, to chronologically compensate for the space between them, an excess circuit is required. In view of this, a first reflection light 107a reflected by a medium surface 106a of the optical disk is received to detect the focal error with respect to the medium surface, and a second reflection light 107b reflected by the surface of a light transmission layer 106b formed on the medium surface 106a to detect the focal error with respect to the surface of the light transmission layer 106b.

  • Publication number: 20070159942
Abstract: A recording method for an optical disc having at least three recording layers (11, 12, 13, 14), in which test recording areas are formed in the odd-numbered recording layers (11, 13) and the even-numbered recording layers (12, 14) in positions that are mutually non-overlapping in the thickness direction of the optical disc, the test recording areas in the odd-numbered recording layers are formed in positions mutually aligned in the thickness direction, and the test recording areas in the even-numbered recording layers are formed in positions mutually aligned in the thickness direction. The time for test recording for determining the optimal recording power can be shortened.
