The cathode layer has a cathode member, a cathode current collector and a liquid tight/gas permeable member. The cathode layer is provided with a contact member between the outer case and the cathode layer, in which the inner end thereof is in contact with the periphery of the cathode current collector, and the outer end thereof is exposed on a cathode-side surface. The outer end of the contact member protrudes outward with respect to a surface of the liquid tight/gas permeable member to an extent reaching at least a plane including an end face of the outer case. Therefore, this air battery can be directly connected to another battery in series, and is suitable for an on-vehicle power source.
