  • Publication number: 20090189837
Abstract: An liquid crystal display includes a liquid crystal panel to which an image signal is applied, the liquid crystal panel including a liquid crystal molecule, and the liquid crystal display displaying an image based on the image signal by performing an active matrix driving, wherein a frequency of an image display in a one field period is higher than 60 Hz, the one field period being a time required for displaying the image, and a rising response time of the liquid crystal molecule is shorter than a hold time of the image signal in the one field.

  • Patent number: 6466294
Abstract: A liquid crystal display panel with a narrow frame, fabricated by eliminating the space required for applying conductive paste. Sealing adhesive containing conductive particles is applied along a rim between the two substrates and constituting a liquid crystal panel. A common electrode on the second substrate and a electrode connecting terminal on the first substrate are electrically connected through the conductive particles in the sealing adhesive. An insulation film made of an organic material is provided at an area of the sealing adhesive for covering conductors at least at a portion where conductors on the first substrate and facing common electrode on the second substrate overlap. This configuration enables to eliminate the use of conductive paste conventionally required for connecting the facing common electrode and facing electrode connecting terminal.

  • Patent number: 5790219
Abstract: A color liquid-crystal display panel comprising switching elements, pixel electrodes, and feed wirings made of plural thinfilm layers deposited on the internal surface of one of the substrates, a color filter having an unevenness of more than 0.3 .mu.m, a black mask, and a liquid-crystal layer disposed between said two substrates, wherein the length of overlap of the black-mask over the color filter for every pixel is slightly different at least in a direction within a plane parallel to said substrate in order to prevent the generation of inverse tilt domain in the rub-down area caused by an application of rubbing, attaining a high image quality without light leakage.

  • Patent number: 5448386
Abstract: An electro-optic element, such as a liquid crystal, exhibits optical rotatory dispersion and includes a pair of phase difference films which have generally orthogonal stretching axes and are disposed between a pair of polarizing plates. The stretching axis directions of the phase difference films and the transmission axis directions of the polarizing plates are arranged relative to the molecular orientation of the surfaces of the liquid crystal cell to achieve an increase in the angle of visibility, an increase in contrast and improvements in color tones.

  • Patent number: 5237440
Abstract: Molecules of the liquid crystal material of the liquid crystal display panel are oriented along the rubbing directions of the upper and lower substrates, and the orientation thereof tends to be twisted in one direction. The reverse domain wherein the orientation is twisted in the reverse direction occurs at portions of the liquid crystal. Though the reverse domain may be prevented form occurring by rubbing the substrates more strongly, it is impossible to sufficiently rub the surfaces of the respective substrates since the substrates are provided with picture element electrodes thereon so that the surfaces are uneven. The liquid crystal display panel is heated to a transformation point so as to change into an isotropic phase after filling the liquid crystal, then is cooled rapidly. This enables a liquid crystal display panel to be obtained in which the twisted directions of the orientation of the liquid crystal molecules are uniform.

  • Patent number: 5157523
Abstract: A projection type liquid crystal display unit has dichroic mirrors capable of dividing a light from a light source into R, G and B components which are guided along respective light paths. Each of at least two of these light paths in provided with an optical system which includes a pair of polarizing plates, a twist nematic liquid crystal and at least one phase plate. The angles of the retardation phase axis of the phase plate and light-interruption axes of the polarizing plates or, alternatively, the retardation of the phase plate is determined so as to improve the light-interruption of the liquid crystal panel in light-interruption mode, thereby enhancing contrast of the display image.
