  • Patent number: 6505497
Abstract: An orientation-adjusting device (2) having: a body (20) for holding a surface texture measuring tool (1), an orientation adjuster (30) having a leg rested on a workpiece for adjusting an orientation of the body (20) by adjusting height of the leg; and a height adjuster (40) for vertically moving the surface texture measuring tool in parallel to the body (20) is used for adjusting an orientation of the surface texture measuring tool (1), thus adjusting movement direction (base line (12A) direction) of the surface texture detecting sensor (11) in parallel with the surface of the workpiece. Accordingly, even when the dimension of the workpiece is large, only a space for disposing the body (20) is required on the workpiece, so that surface texture can be measured at high resolution without being restricted by size of the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 6487897
Abstract: An arm member (52) detachably provided with a stylus arm (53) is rotatably held by a casing (11), where pivots (68) respectively project from both sides of a rotation center of the arm member (52), a first ball bearing (70) engaging with one of the pivots (68) is fixed to the casing (11) and a second ball bearing (70) engaging with the other one of the pivots (68) is fixed to the second ball bearing (70). A leaf-spring (75) has one end fixed to the casing (11) and the other end fixed to the second ball bearing (70). Since the second ball bearing (70) does not shift relative to the leaf-spring (75), measuring pressure remains stable.

  • Patent number: 6446496
Abstract: A surface texture measuring instrument has a pre-load leaf spring (41, 42) for biasing a detector (10) having a skid (14) at a distal end thereof, a pre-load force controller (47) for controlling a pre-load force of the pre-load leaf spring (41, 42), and a stopper (50) for restricting movement of the detector (10) in a biasing direction when a predetermined pre-load force is applied to the detector (10) by the pre-load force controller (47). In conducting a skidless measurement, the detector (10) is locked by applying the predetermined pre-load force to the detector (10) by the pre-load force controller (47). In conducting a skid measurement, the pre-load force less than the predetermined value is applied to the detector (10) by the pre-load force controller (47).

  • Patent number: 6425285
Abstract: A slider holding a measuring tool moves along an approximately reverse U-shaped guide rail provided in parallel with a moving direction of the measuring tool without being rotated. Accordingly, a cross section of the guide rail can be enlarged without increasing the size of the entirety of a drive unit. As a result, high rigidity can be obtained while reducing the size and weight of the drive unit as compared to a conventional arrangement having two shafts. Further, linearity of the slider and the measuring tool moving along a reference surface of the guide rail can be attained with high accuracy. Further, since a pre-load means for biasing the slider toward a guide rail is provided, a position or orientation of the slider and the measuring tool can be stabilized, thus securely repeating movement of the measuring tool.

  • Patent number: 6397667
Abstract: A surface property measuring device includes a detector having a stylus, and a driving mechanism for causing the detector to advance and retreat along a surface to be measured. The measuring device further comprises a main shaft fixed to a frame of the driving mechanism in parallel with an advancing and retreating direction of the detector, and a slide block which is shaped like a rectangle in the advancing and retreating direction of the detector, sliding on the main shaft, the main shaft being inserted through two of a fore and a rear portion of the slide block. This results in improvement of the straightness accuracy in the movement of the detector, and reduces the cost while stabilizing the measurement accuracy.

  • Patent number: 6164124
Abstract: A surface property measuring device comprises a detector having a stylus for measuring surface property and a skid at a leading end thereof, and a driving mechanism for causing the detector to advance and retreat along a surface to be measured. The measuring device further comprises a detector-lifting plate having an engaging portion engaging with a protrusion of a connector housing when the detector retreats to the utmost. The detecting-lifting plate is fixed to a frame of the driving mechanism, for lifting the leading end of the detector to thereby separate the skid and the stylus from the surface to be measured when the detector retreats. This enables the surface to be measured, a nose, the stylus, and the skid which protrude from the detector, to be protected when arranging the measurement and also removing the measuring device after the measurement.
