  • Patent number: 4969680
Abstract: A side wall structure such as a door for an automotive body includes an inner panel such and an outer panel which are spaced laterally from each other, the outer panel having an opening defined in a substantially lower portion thereof by an edge thereof and having a horizontal length larger than a vertical length thereof, and a reinforcing panel complementary in shape to the opening and having a peripheral edge joined to the edge of the outer panel in covering relation to the opening.

Date of Patent: November 13, 1990
Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha
    Inventor: Nobuyoshi Shimoda
  • Patent number: 4936621
Abstract: Spacers to be installed between the free end surface of a door and the countersurface of the doorpillar to check movement of the door when the door moves relative to the doorpillar toward the countersurface to prevent any contact of the edge of a flange on the door with adjacent structure opposite the edge of the flange. The spacers are sized to reduce the spacing between the free end surface and the countersurface to a distance less than the clearance between the edge of the door flange and the adjacent structure.

  • Patent number: 4934751
Abstract: A side wall structure in an automotive body is designed for increased mechanical strength against shocks which will be applied laterally to the automotive body. The side wall structure includes an inner panel and an outer panel which are spaced laterally from each other and define a space therebetween, a first reinforcing member disposed in the space near the outer panel and extending in a longitudinal direction of the automobile body, a second reinforcing member having one end facing an inner surface of the first reinforcing member, the second reinforcing member being disposed between the inner panel and the first reinforcing member, and a third reinforcing beam having an end disposed in confronting relation to the other end of the second reinforcing member, the third reinforcing member exending across the passenger compartment of the automotive body.

  • Patent number: 4408790
Abstract: A shock absorbing bumper for vehicles, including a bumper face member formed of a synthetic resin and a metal back plate fitted in the bumper face member. The back plate includes upper and lower bent end portions provided with extensions for seizing the upper and lower edges of the bumper face member in association with the end portions of the back plate, thereby minimizing the number of parts required. The length of the back plate is substantially equal to the width of a vehicle body on which the bumper is mounted so as to effectively support the bumper face member.
