  • Patent number: 6214409
Abstract: A liquid coating nozzle is provided with a first block which has an inner liquid reserving section that extends in the longitudinal direction and an inner discharge section which includes a plurality of small holes formed in the longitudinal direction at a bottom portion of the liquid reserving section. The nozzle is also provided with a second block which has an inner space defining a gas reserving section that extends in the longitudinal direction outside the first block and an outer discharge section formed in the longitudinal direction at a bottom portion of the inner space. The outer discharge section includes a plurality of small holes and produces a gas flow that externally surrounds a linear or curtain-shaped liquid flow that flows downward from the small holes. This results in the formation of a thin coating film in a short time and reduces the consumption of liquid and coating nonuniformities.

  • Patent number: 6103297
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a cathode-ray tube comprises a process of forming a phosphor screen. The process comprises an application process, a shake-off process, and a drying process. In the application process, a glass panel is tilted with respect to a vertical axis and is rotated having a tilt axis as a central axis to spread a phosphor slurry over almost the entire area of an inner face of the glass panel. In the shake-off process, by rotating the glass panel, excess phosphor slurry is shaken off, and the excess phosphor slurry is recovered in phosphor-slurry recovery members provided at the four corners of the glass panel. In the drying process, the phosphor slurry is dried. In this method, the tilt angle and rotation speed of the glass panel at least in one process out of the application process, the shake-off process, and the drying process is changed at least in two stages.

  • Patent number: 6009231
Abstract: A data reproducing method and apparatus for providing special reproductions such as a reverse reproduction quickly when it is specified. In the data reproducing apparatus comprising a demodulator for demodulating data read out of a digital video disk by a pickup, a buffer for temporarily storing the demodulated data and a decoder for decoding the data read out of the buffer into original video signals, further included is a control circuit for controlling the buffer so that an unread data area and an already-read data area in the buffer take about half of the total memory capacity, respectively. As a result, the data necessary for reverse reproduction or the like is present in the buffer, allowing the special reproduction to run quickly.

  • Patent number: 5956299
Abstract: A playback apparatus prevents the position of a pick-up from deviating to a location outside a data area of a record medium. A system controller judges whether the number of tracks T to be skipped between the current read position and a target sector of a track jump is equal to or greater than a predetermined number. If the number of tracks is equal to or greater than 1,000, for example, the system controller then judges whether a track including the target sector is located within a predetermined range A from the edge of a data area on the medium which corresponds to an error that may result in the track jump. If the track including the target sector is located within the predetermined range from the edge of the data area, the system controller subtracts A from the number of tracks T to be skipped in the track jump resulting in a new number of tracks T-A. The track jump is executed by skipping (T-A) tracks while the tracking and thread servos are halted.

  • Patent number: 5920527
Abstract: When reproducing a disk having a plurality of recording layers read from one face, the reading out position is refocused from the current track position in a current recording layer to the target track position in the target recording layer. The reading out position deviates appreciably during such refocusing of the reading out position, and spurt processing is performed as a result. To avoid lengthy spurt processing, the reading out position is first moved from a first recording layer to a second recording layer in which is recorded the data to be read next. Thereafter, the reading out position is moved along the second recording layer to a position where such data is located, thereby avoiding additional spurt processing.

  • Patent number: 5175405
Abstract: In a method of automatically welding rails, welding of bottom portions of the rails is carried out as root pass welding of a first layer according to CO.sub.2 gas shielded arc weld technique, and as continuous multilayer welding of layers above the first layer according to CO.sub.2 gas shielded arc weld technique without discontinuing the welding of a second layer and upper layers. In welding of ankle portions (R2) of the rails, a flux is rapidly added to promptly shift to electroslag weld. Then, welding is conducted to head surfaces (R5) of the rails by continuing electroslag weld technique. This automatic welding method enables high efficiency field welding of rails, obviating the need for any complicated switching operation of the electric power source and use of several kinds of welding materials.

  • Patent number: 5114801
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a magnetic recording medium having a magnetic layer comprising hexagonal ferrite magnetic particles each expressed as BaO.multidot.Fe.sub.12-x-y Sn.sub.x Mg.sub.y O.sub.18 (where, 0.55.ltoreq.x.ltoreq.0.88, 0.71.ltoreq.y.ltoreq.1.05). The hexagonal ferrite magnetic particles contained in this magnetic layer each have Sn and Mg partially substituted for Fe, the Sn and Mg being perfectly solid-soluble, thus being capable of providing hexagonal ferrite magnetic particles which are superior in crystalline properties and small in variation of composition. As a result, the coercivity distribution can be made further sensitive, both the self demagnetization and recording demagnetization in the short wave-length range can be reduced, and a higher reproducing output characteristic is attainable in the high density recording range.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a perpendicular magnetic film of spinel type iron oxide formed on a surface of a base substrate in the form of columnar grains which are densely arranged perpendicularly to the surface of the base substrate. A vapor of an organic iron compound or a mixed vapor consisting of the organic iron compound vapor and a vapor of an organic metal compound different from the organic iron compound is added with oxygen to obtain a mixed gas. The mixed gas is subjected to chemical vapor deposition on the substrate at low temperature, at reduced pressure in plasma, thereby to obtain the perpendicular magnetic film.
