  • Patent number: 5832752
Abstract: A portable lock has a housing, a locking member connected to the housing, and a lock control mounted on the housing for selectively locking and unlocking the locking member. The housing is formed with a base and a tip, first and second sidewalls each extending from the base to the tip, and front and back walls each extending between the base, tip, and first and second sidewalls. The base is wider than the tip and the first and second sidewalls are farther apart from each other near the base than near the tip. When the housing is grasped by a hand having any orientation relative to the housing, the lock control is reachable for manipulation by at least one digit of the same hand. A light is mounted on the housing, and a wheel is mounted within the housing and has a hollow portion defining a compartment.

  • Patent number: 5695271
Abstract: A booklight includes a mounting bracket for mounting the booklight on a support, and an elongate first arm having a proximal end and a distal end, the proximal end being pivotally attached to the mounting bracket. A rigid elongate retractable arm has a proximal end and a distal end, the proximal end of the elongate retractable arm being telescopically connected to the distal end of the elongate first arm. The elongate first arm and elongate retractable arm are shaped so as to prevent rotation of the elongate retractable arm relative to the elongate first arm. The elongate retractable arm is mounted for movement with respect to the elongate first arm between a retracted position and an extended position. A light-radiating source is mounted at the distal end of the elongate retractable arm.

  • Patent number: 5369556
Abstract: A radiant-energy tool (e.g., a flashlight or fire starter) comprises a housing adapted to accommodate an energy source (e.g., a battery pack or a fuel tank) and an elongate extension having a proximal end connected to the housing and a distal end opposite the proximal end adapted to release radiant energy. The extension connects the energy source to the distal end and is formed of a material that can be easily flexed by hand to assume a plurality of different shapes and that can retain a given shape indefinitely. The housing and the distal end of the extension can each be conveniently positioned and oriented independently of the other. The housing is formed with a peripheral groove for accommodating the extension so that the extension can be wrapped around the housing for storage and to provide a compact configuration for use.

  • Patent number: 5154483
Abstract: A flashlight comprises a housing adapted to accommodate batteries and an elongate extension having a proximal end connected to the housing and a distal end opposite the proximal end adapted to accommodate a light bulb. Electrically conductive leads carried by the extension are adapted to connect the battery to the bulb. The extension is formed of multiple strands of twisted copper wire or another material separate from the conductive leads that can be easily flexed by hand to assume a plurality of different shapes and that can retain a given shape indefinitely. The housing and the bulb can each be conveniently positioned and oriented independently of the other.

  • Patent number: 4538983
Abstract: The invention comprises a safety lighter for providing a flame for lighting camp fires, cooking stoves, heaters, lanterns, and the like. The safety lighter has a housing for a fuel container and an electric igniting device, and an extension tube, mounted to the forward end of the housing, that is pivotable from a folded position to an extended position, wherein a flame can be provided at its end remote from the user's hand. The housing has a recess in which a push-button is positioned for actuating the providing of fuel and the igniting device simultaneously. When the extension tube is folded, it lies parallel to the housing over the recess and the push-button so that the lighter cannot be accidentally ignited.

  • Patent number: 4432042
Abstract: A book-light characterized by its small size and light weight is formed from suitable plastic material with a base supporting a vertical lamp-bearing arm and an integral clamp consisting of a U-shaped frame having side arms rigidly attached to the base and a central plate flexibly attached to the base so that the entire book-light may be attached to a book or other publication by inserting the cover or pages between arms and the central plate. The vertical lamp-bearing arm is mounted at one end in a transverse slot in the base, while the other end supports the lamp proper in a manner to permit both circular and vertical motions.
