  • Patent number: 6840740
Abstract: A turbine bucket dovetail secures buckets in a turbine rotor. The turbine bucket dovetail includes a plurality of hooks engageable with a wheel post of the turbine rotor, which hooks extend in an axial direction relative to the turbine rotor. A pocket is machined in a tangential face of the dovetail, resulting in reduced peak stress in the wheel post dovetail edge at the gate opening.

  • Publication number: 20040090014
Abstract: A nuclear low pressure packing casing having reduced horizontal joint leakage. This is accomplished by providing packing ring carriers that are separately formed from the casing so that thermal distortion loads will not be transmitted to the horizontal joints. In an embodiment of the invention, the packing ring carriers are fit in place in pre-machine grooves in the casing rather than being welded directly to the casing. According to further, optional feature of the invention, the vent or seal steam enters or exits at only one of the bottom quadrants rather than the entire bottom half so that the packing case design can be simplified to reduce fabrication and material costs.

  • Patent number: 6652237
Abstract: A dovetail joint between a rotor wheel and a bucket includes a male dovetail component on the rotor wheel and a female dovetail component on the bucket. The male dovetail component has axially projecting hooks with slanted surfaces along generally radially inwardly directed surfaces. The slanted surfaces form included angles with a plane normal to the axis of rotation and bisecting the wheel dovetail which are larger than 90° and remain constant for all of the hooks. Single radius fillets are also provided along the transition surfaces between the slanted crush surfaces and the neck surfaces. The stress concentrations are therefore minimized.

  • Patent number: 6506021
Abstract: A plurality of arcuate circumferentially spaced supply and return manifold segments are arranged on the rim of a rotor for respectively receiving and distributing cooling steam through exit ports for distribution to first and second-stage buckets and receiving spent cooling steam from the first and second-stage buckets through inlet ports for transmission to axially extending return passages. Each of the supply and return manifold segments has a retention system for precluding substantial axial, radial and circumferential displacement relative to the rotor. The segments also include guide vanes for minimizing pressure losses in the supply and return of the cooling steam. The segments lie substantially equal distances from the centerline of the rotor and crossover tubes extend through each of the segments for communicating steam between the axially adjacent buckets of the first and second stages, respectively.
