  • Publication number: 20050192453
Abstract: The invention relates to a device and a method for disabling electronic devices in order to reliably prevent third parties from gaining unauthorized knowledge of data in the event of loss of the storage medium. The device comprises a gas generator, with a pyrotechnic propelling charge, disposed in the area of the storage medium. At least one fuel or at least one oxidator of the propelling charge releases, when the latter is triggered, well conducting metals, especially precious or semi-precious metals which are deposited on the electronic parts of the electronic device. According to the inventive method, the igniter can be triggered manually, by sensors or remote-controlled. The invention further relates to an electronic data processing system and a telephone comprising such a device.

  • Publication number: 20050145647
Abstract: The invention relates to a self-defence module comprising a housing containing a chamber that holds a free-flowing active medium and comprising a compressed gas source for spontaneously dispensing the active medium from the chamber. In order to be able to miniaturise the self-defence module, the compressed gas source is configured from a pyrotechnic gas generator and an ignition unit that interacts with the generator. According to the application, the ignition unit can be triggered manually or by a sensor. • Publication number: 20040012114
Abstract: For producing a granulated intermediate product which consists of a fine-particle thermoplastic or thermoelastic polymer and substantially inert fillers for further processing into plastic shaped bodies through thermoplastic processing methods it is proposed to mix the polymer in the form of powder or particles with the fillers and compact the powder mixture without plastification of the polymer exclusively under mechanical pressure into pourable agglomerates with larger grain size. Such an agglomerate can be processed into shaped bodies in the same manner as a conventional plastic granulated material, wherein thermal damage to the fillers and the molecular structure of the polymer is reliably prevented during production of the intermediate product and extremely high fill fractions can be achieved.

  • Patent number: 6591753
Abstract: A propellant device of consisting of a compact charge and a firing system for pipe weapons or ballistic drives is proposed. At least one electromagnetic radiation absorbing medium, e.g. carbon black, is dispersed in the compact charge and can be activated by means of a firing system emitting electromagnetic radiation. The compact charge is thereby disintergrated in fragments through triggering of the firing system and the fragments are accelerated into the gas volume produced during burning of the compact charge. The inventive propellant device avoids the use of chemical firing as well as mechanical firing means. Moreover, fragmentation of the compact charge permits maintenance of the produced maximum pressure over a longer period of time to impart a higher muzzle velocity to an object to be accelerated, e.g. a projectile, a rocket or the like.

  • Patent number: 6509397
Abstract: A plastic material made from a polymer blend, is characterized in that said material contains at least one lignin-based natural polymer, in particular based on alkali lignin produced during the extraction of cellulose, and at least one other synthetic and/or natural polymer which increases the impact resistance, proteins excluded. The inventive plastic material has excellent characteristics. It is biodegradable due to the natural polymer content and has, to a considerable extent, an ecologically neutral CO2 balance. The polymer blend can be used advantageously in place of wood or wood materials.

  • Patent number: 4719347
Abstract: A method for investigating a volume change of a sample under tension, with a sample being scanned by a first light beam and the light beam reflected from the sample being detected and further processed. The sample is then illuminated with at least one additional light beam of finite width, with the light beam being converted into a first voltage behind the sample, and a transverse pattern of different reflectivity is scanned by the first light beam longitudinally, and with the change in frequency, produced by stretching, in the reflected light intensity-modulated in this fashion being converted into a corresponding second voltage and the voltages are compared with one another, possibly after calibration.

  • Patent number: 4685804
Abstract: A method is disclosed for measuring the rate and/or extent of movement of oscillatory element positioned on an oscillating system by passing a reference beam towards a reference detector over a reference edge. The reference edge is fixed relative to the element. The measurement beam is directed towards the measurement detector over a measurement edge of a surface adapted to move together with the element relative to the reference edge. The movement of the measurement edge cuts the measurement beam as it moves into the path of the measurement beam. The rate and/or extent of movement of the element relative to the reference edge is determined by comparing the illumination received by each of the detectors. Apparatus is also disclosed for measuring the rate and/or extent of movement of an oscillatory element positioned on an oscillating system including a measurement edge adapted to move together with the element. A reference edge is maintained stationary relative to the measurement edge.
