Abstract: In a process for joining two metallic workpieces (1.1,1.2) together, the pieces are butted together to form a butt joint (2) and are joined to one another in the region of the butt joint (2). During this operation, the workpieces (1.1,1.2) are subjected to a magnetic attraction force at one side, and can be subjected to holddown pressure on the opposite side.

Abstract: In a method for monitoring and positioning a beam or jet for operating on a workpiece, a first sensor (eg. in the case of a beam, a seam detecting system) ahead of the beam or jet, and/or a preset value, determines the path to be followed by the beam or jet. A second sensor behind the beam or jet monitors the action of the beam or jet. The preset value, or the readings obtained by the first sensor regarding a required position of the beam or jet, is or are compared with readings obtained by the second sensor regarding an actual position of the beam or jet, taking account of the velocity-dependent relative displacement between the beam or jet and the workpiece. The beam or jet is corrected to a basic position if the actual position deviates from the required position.

Abstract: In a method for connecting two workpieces together by a welded seam, the workpieces are held in a welding station between opposed tracks consisting of a plurality of members. The tracks run around guide rollers in a conveying direction. A clearance (a) between the guide rollers which come first in the conveying direction can be changed upon insertion of the workpieces between the tracks.

Abstract: In laser butt welding of metal sheets, in particular sheets of unequal thicknesses, the temperature is measured at two points behind the liquid-solid interface. From combination of the two readings obtained a series of process data can be derived whereby the welding process can be monitored.

Abstract: In an inspection or processing machine machine for returned PET multitrip bottles the bottles are acted upon by a laser beam, in order to examine the bottles and/or read a code on the bottle and/or write a code on the bottles. The bottles run in the machine on a carousel. The laser beam is directed through a central hollow shaft of the carousel via mirrors onto the bottle. The moving bottles can thereby be acted upon in a simple manner.
