  • Publication number: 20180248456
Abstract: A machine and a method for converting between electrical and mechanical energies, the machine may include a stator with first, second (and possibly third) pole faces, a rotor assembly with first, second (and possibly third) rotors connected via a shaft. A magnetic source may be attached to either the rotor assembly or the stator. The source creates a magnetic flux field loop. The machine may include one or more electrical conductors wrapped around a portion of the stator, where the conductors may have multiple portions positioned in a gap between a stator pole face and a rotor. Current flow through all the portions flows across the stator pole face in a same direction. The magnetic source creates a magnetic flux field loop that may rotate with the rotors, causing the conductor portions to pass through the loop, and causing a conversion of energy.

  • Patent number: 9880228
Abstract: A method of measuring integrity of a pulse-width modulated power converter may include the steps of monitoring data associated with an input and an output of the power converter. Then correlating the data to identify degradation in performance of the power converter. A system for measuring integrity of a pulse-width modulated power converter. Current sensors may sense input and output currents of the power converter. A programmable controller may be loaded with an integrity measuring algorithm that may analyze data from the current sensors. An impending failure of the power converter may be indicated as a result of the analysis of the data.
