  • Patent number: 9302361
Abstract: An apparatus for machining workpieces has a frame having a vertical front wall and defining a work station, an intake station, and an output station. Conveyors move the workpieces into the intake station and out of the output station. At least one tool is provided in the work station. A vertical guide on the front wall carries a vertical slide movable vertically by a drive. A horizontal guide on the vertical slide extends along the working, intake, and output stations and carries a horizontal slide movable by another drive means along the horizontal guide. A workpiece holder/grab rotatable about a vertical axis on the horizontal slide is shiftable between respective positions alignable with the working, intake, and output stations on movement of the horizontal slide along the horizontal guide.

  • Patent number: 8661950
Abstract: A machining apparatus has a frame defining a transfer station and a machining station thereabove, a spindle having a workpiece grab and vertically displaceable on the frame between an upper position with the grab in the machining station and a lower position with the grab in the transfer station, a tool holder horizontally displaceable on the frame toward and away from the machining station, and a workpiece conveyor extending through the transfer station. After shifting a deflector underneath the machining station into a side position out from underneath the grab, the grab is lowered to pick an at least partially unmachined workpiece in the transfer station off the conveyor and then raised with the workpiece into the machining station. • Patent number: 8491357
Abstract: A crankshaft is machined by first securing it in first and second radially displaceable grippers of first and second holders rotatable about a common grinding axis and orienting the workpiece axis coaxial with the grinding axis. Then the crankshaft is released from the first gripper, and the second holder is rotated to align the first crankpin radially with the grinding axis. Subsequently the crankshaft is regripped by the first gripper and released by the second gripper and the second holder is rotated relative to the crankshaft until the second holder is aligned with its displacement direction lying in a common plane with the grinding axis and the displacement direction of the first gripper. Finally, both the grippers are shifted parallel to each other in their displacement directions to center the first crankpin on the grinding axis, and the crankshaft is about the grinding axis while machining the first crankpin.

  • Patent number: 8282322
Abstract: Race grooves and lobe outer surfaces of a constant-velocity race gear centered on a gear axis are finished by engaging a first groove of the race gear with a rotating groove-machining tool and relatively moving the race gear and rotating groove-machining tool arcuately to finish the first groove while holding the race gear against rotation about its gear axis. Then the first groove of the race gear is disengaged from the rotating groove-machining tool while holding the race gear against rotation about its gear axis. Then the race gear is rotated about its gear axis to align a second groove with the rotating groove-machining tool while engaging a first lobe outer surface with a rotating surface-machining tool to finish same. These steps are repeated in the same order to finish the second groove and a second lobe outer surface and so on until all the grooves and lobe outer surfaces of the race gear are finished.

  • Patent number: 7493687
Abstract: A workpiece-treating machine has a pair of longitudinally extending and transversely spaced upright walls and a plurality of horizontal transverse webs bridging the walls and forming therewith a rigid elongated frame defining at one longitudinal end a receiving station, at an opposite longitudinal end an output station, between the receiving station and output station a pair of longitudinally spaced working stations, and a transfer station between the working stations. A workpiece is introduced into the frame at the receiving station and taken out at the output station. A guide above all the stations carries mounts shiftable along the guides above the stations. Respective grippers shiftable vertically along vertical rails on the mounts can hold the workpieces in the working stations for action by tools therein and carry the workpieces longitudinally from station to station.
