  • Patent number: 4901455
Abstract: A ski boot including an upper journalled on a rigid shell base around a journal axis so that the upper can undergo forward flexion around the journal axis in response to forward flexion of the leg of the skier. Also provided is a flexion control device which elastically opposes forward flexion of the upper. The flexion control device is an elastic element positioned between the shell base and the upper and extends transversely to the longitudinal axis of the boot. One end of the elastic element is attached to the shell base at a linkage point spaced from the journal axis. Another portion of the elastic element is attached to the lower edge of the cuff at a support point by a retention element. These attachments are such that during forward flexion: the distance from the journal axis to the support is invariant, the distance from the journal axis to the linkage point is invariant, and the distance from the support point to the linkage point varies.

  • Patent number: 4709491
Abstract: A ski boot including an upper journalled around a transverse axis on a rigid shell base. Also provided is an apparatus for determining the advancement angle of the upper, that is the angle which the upper forms with a vertical axis when at rest. In addition, the boot is adapted to flex forward from this advancement angle during skiing. The apparatus determining the advancement angle also determines the resistance moment of the boot to forward flexion from the advancement angle. This apparatus is an elastic apparatus integral with the shell base and the upper and extending between these two boot portions. The point of connection between the elastic apparatus and one of the two boot portions is adjustable between four positions.

  • Patent number: 4677770
Abstract: A ski boot of the rear entry type having an upper and a shell base. The upper includes a front portion journalled on the shell base around a first journal and a rear portion journalled on the front portion around a second journal. The front portion of the upper includes two lateral extensions extending from the first journal to the heel of the shell base. A portion of the lateral extensions and/or the second journal engages an abutment on the shell base so as to rigidly link the upper to the shell base when the lower leg of the skier presses rearwardly on the the upper, thereby permitting the shell base to absorb this rearwardly directed force.

  • Patent number: 4644670
Abstract: A manipulation element for closing and latching the rear spoiler of a ski boot onto the lower leg of a skier. The boot includes a cable which attaches the boot to a manipulation element. The manipulation element actuates the cable to close and latch the rear spoiler onto the lower portion of the leg. The manipulation element includes an element for actuating the cable to close and latch the boot. This actuating element is journalled on the rear spoiler, and includes a protective enclosure journalled on the actuating element for at least partially enclosing the cable along at least a portion of the length of the cable to protect the cable from damage.

  • Patent number: 4596080
Abstract: A rear-entry ski boot including a rigid shell base and an upper. The upper includes a cuff and a spoiler adapted to pivot between opened and closed positions. Also provided is means for automatically closing the spoiler after the leg is inserted into the boot, in response to pressure from the leg on the boot. The automatic closure means includes a flexible linkage element connected at an attachment point to the cuff, a guide element mounted on the upper and around which at least a portion of the linkage element is wound, a traction element journalled on the spoiler around a journal axis and which is connected to the linkage element, and an elastic apparatus for permanently maintaining a traction force on the linkage element for all positions of the spoiler with respect to the cuff. These elements form a self-latching elbow system which defines a dead point when the guide element, the journal axis and the attachment point are aligned.
