  • Patent number: 4857297
Abstract: H.sub.2 S is directly oxidized to elemental sulfur by contacting an H.sub.2 S containing gas stream having a water content less than 10% by volume with air or oxygen over a catalyst containing at least 80 wt % titanium dioxide. Most of the H.sub.2 S in the gas is oxidized to elemental sulfur. The process is especially useful for recovery of additional sulfur from effluent gas from a Claus unit.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 9, 1987
Date of Patent: August 15, 1989
    Assignee: Mobil Oil Corporation
Inventors: Roland Kettner, Norbert Liermann, Torsten Lubcke
  • Patent number: 4552746
Abstract: A process for the reduction of sulfur content in gas streams with production of elemental sulfur wherein the sulfur-containing gas is thermally treated, in the presence of oxygen, with a catalyst consisting essentially of titanium oxide.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 21, 1982
Date of Patent: November 12, 1985
Inventors: Roland Kettner, Norbert Liermann, Torsten Lubcke
