  • Patent number: 6041677
Abstract: A device for attaching a steering wheel hub to a steering wheel column, while simultaneously fixing a contact unit to the steering wheel, includes a fastener that has a head part engaging in the hub and a shank that engages partially in the hub and partially in the shaft. In a locked position, the fastener engages a recess in the contact unit to prevent the steering wheel hub from rotating relative to the stator of the contact unit. In an unlocked position, the fastener partially engages the hub, partially engages the column, and disengages from the recess in the contact unit to fixedly connect the hub to the column and allow the hub, and therefore the rotor of the contact unit, to rotate.

  • Patent number: 6032977
Abstract: A gas bag for a side airbag module which is inflatable by means of a filling device and which consists of at least two chambers in communication with each other. A check strip is provided as a wall between the two respective chambers. The check strip is attached by its edges to opposite surfaces of the gas bag. The ends of the strip do not extend to the periphery of the gas bag allowing the chambers to communicate with each other and thereby allowing gas to pass from one chamber to the other. When the gas bag is inflated, the check strip has a path running at least partially deviating from a straight line. The edges of the strip may also run in different directions. As a result, the gas bag may be simply subdivided into chambers of different size and shape. Consequently, the shape of the inflated gas bag is influenced.

  • Patent number: 5929535
Abstract: An ignition circuit output stage which is driven by one or several microprocessors. Up to now different modes of operation each required their own different ignition circuit output stage. The ignition circuit output stage according to the invention is programmable - that is, using one and the same output stage, different modes of operation can be selected such as, for example, the unregulated or output stage mode as well as the regulated and limited output current mode. The circuit essentially consists of a down converter which, when activated, will regulate and limit the discharge current. The down converter can be activated and deactivated by means of an appropriate signal. When the down converter is in its deactivated state, an unregulated discharge takes place; this is the output stage mode.

  • Patent number: 5464325
Abstract: A refrigerant or coolant compressor of the radial type with an impeller hng a plurality of vane elements can be used for compressing water vapor as a refrigerant or coolant under vacuum conditions. The impeller of the compressor is constructed to produce a high volume flow rate at the required compression ratio, in view of the low density of water vapor as the preferred flow medium. The impeller has sufficient strength to operate at the required high circumferential velocities. The impeller includes vane elements, disk elements, vane support elements and a hub. The vane elements are individually connected to the hub by the support elements. The support elements may be either ring-shaped elements connecting a rear surface of the disk elements to the hub, or may be pin-shaped insert members connecting the root of each vane element to the hub. The components of the impeller are made of a polymer composite material reinforced preferably with carbon fibers.

  • Patent number: 5424711
Abstract: An ultrasonic monitoring system for the interior of a motor vehicle having two mutually spatially separately secured emission elements (S1, S2), the main lobes of the directional characteristics of which are oriented in different directions, and having at least one reception element (E1, E2), but at as a rule having at least two mutually physically separate reception elements (E1, E2). The reception elements (E1, E2) are not formed by the emission elements (S1, S2), but are physically separate from all emission elements (S1, S2). The two emission elements (S1, S2) are operated alternately with pauses in such a manner that in each instance firstly only one of the emission elements (e.g. S1) emits an ultrasonic pulse, which is thereafter received by the reception element (E1 ) associated with this emission element (S1), and only after such reception does the other emission element (S2) emit ultrasound, which is thereafter received by the reception element (E2) associated with this emission element (S2 ).

  • Patent number: 5361850
Abstract: The invention relates to a side strut (6) for the lower steering arm of a three-point hitch of a tractor. Locking catches (24, 25) are provided to cancel the floating position which the two telescopic members (14, 15) of the side strut 6 may assume relative to each other. The catches (24, 25) lock the members via locking contours (29, 30) of a locking recess 28, which surround and secure to a locking journal (31). The two locking catches (24, 25) are arranged at the sides of the telescopic members (14, 15). The locking catches have their pivot axis of the articulated journal (27) the points of contact between the locking contours (29, 30) and the locking journals (31), in a locked position, positioned on a connecting line. The line extends parallel to the sliding axis (16) and through the pivot axis of the ball eye (13). In this way, it is ensured that the locking catches (24, 25) and also the side strut (6), together, are not subject to any bending moments resulting from any tensile or compressive forces.

  • Patent number: 5360426
Abstract: A contact applicator arrangement for applying laser radiation to an object is disclosed. The contact applicator arrangement includes: a holder having an outer surface and defining a longitudinal axis; the holder having an outlet formed in the outer surface for passing the radiation from the holder to the object; a radiation guide mounted in the holder for guiding the radiation through the outlet; and, an element displaceably mounted in the holder so as to be movable along the longitudinal axis in response to a contact pressure applied on the element. The element is movable to a first position wherein the element extends outwardly beyond the surface of the holder and to a second position rearward of the first position. These first and second positions define a displacement range of the element. A spring resiliently biases the element in opposition to the contact pressure to define a pregiven force within the displacement range of the element.
