  • Patent number: 10513454
Abstract: A method for producing synthetic fused quartz is provided. The method includes evaporating a feedstock material which contains at least one polymerizable polyalkylsiloxane compound, and supplying the feedstock material vapor to a reaction zone, wherein the feedstock material vapor is converted by oxidation and/or by hydrolysis into SiO2 particles. The feedstock material vapor is passed through a membrane filter as a cleaning device to reduce the formation of gel, which is typically associated with the production of synthetic fused quartz.

  • Patent number: 9481597
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing synthetic quartz glass by vaporizing a polyalkylsiloxane as a liquid SiO2 feedstock (105), converting the vaporized SiO2 feedstock (107) into SiO2 particles, separating the SiO2 particles, forming a soot body (200) and vitrifying the soot body (200). According to the invention, the vaporizing of the heated SiO2 feedstock (105) comprises an injection phase in an expansion chamber (125), in which the SiO2 feedstock (105) is atomized into fine droplets, wherein the droplets have an average diameter of less than 5 pm, and wherein the atomizing of the droplets takes place in a preheated carrier gas stream which has a temperature of more than 180° C.

  • Publication number: 20140238632
Abstract: A method is provided for repairing defects in a ceramic core adapted for use in a casting process. The ceramic core is formed from a slurry comprising at least one refractory powder material suspended in a liquid vehicle. The method includes forming a repair mixture comprising a liquid diluent and the at least one refractory powder material suspended in the liquid vehicle of the slurry. The repair mixture is applied to a region of the ceramic core that includes at least one defect and then the ceramic core is fired to burn off the liquid vehicle in the repair mixture and form a ceramic composition that closes the defect.

  • Patent number: 6938776
Abstract: A method of separating a mixture of particles in a liquid that within chosen limits have different physical property values, wherein the particles to be separated are supplied via a feeder to a screen upon which a layer of facilitating particles is disposed the size of the facilitating parties being too large to fit through the openings in the screen, wherein particles to be separated are passed through the layer of facilitating particles and through the openings in the screen and collected under the screen, the density of the particles being greater than that of the liquid, and wherein a repetitive vertical movement is provided between the particles and the liquid, respectively.

  • Publication number: 20020127593
Abstract: A method of assaying compounds for their ability to effect enzymes including enhancing or inhibiting the effect of those enzymes on double stranded DNA sequences is disclosed. The method comprises providing a modified nucleotide sequence comprised of a base analogue which analogue is characterized by increased fluorescence when moved out of its normal helical position, the sequence having a complimentary sequence hybridized thereto to provide a double stranded sequence. The modified sequence containing the base analogue is brought into contact with the enzyme which enzyme is characterized by effecting the 3-dimensional position of the analogue within the sequence. The enzyme is brought into contact with the sequences in the presence of a compound being assayed. By knowing the amount of increased fluorescence the enzyme would normally have on the sequence is possible to determine the inhibitory or enhancing effect of the compound on the enzyme.

  • Patent number: 4074627
Abstract: Apparatus for removing buildup of high viscosity printing inks from the edge of a doctor blade in an inking fountain used in a rotary printing press is disclosed. A moving cleaning web or sheet is supported in spaced relation to the edge of the doctor blade by a conducting blade whose position is adjustable both horizontally and vertically. Buildup of high viscosity ink at the edge of the doctor blade is eliminated as the built up particles of ink are picked up and carried away by the moving cleaning web or ink wiper which may be either an endless web or a disposable roll of material.
