  • Patent number: 6365405
Abstract: This invention concerns compositions of chondrocytic cells, notably human ones, and the methods for preparing and using them. More specifically, the invention describes the production of autologous human chondrocyte suspensions, employing recombinant enzymes and/or media that are compatible with pharmaceutical use. The invention also describes methods and compositions for freezing chondrocytes, notably in the absence of DMSO. The chondrocytes which are produced can be used in vivo to restore affected cartilaginous structures, such as in post-traumatic cartilaginous defects or dissecting osteochondrite of the knee or, more generally, for treating and repairing clinically significant defects in cartilage, notably in joint cartilage.

  • Patent number: 5717006
Abstract: Composition for biomaterial for resorption/substitution of support tissues, dental tissues, bone tissues and osteoarticular tissues, which is made up of 40 to 75% by weight of a mineral phase comprising either a mixture of .beta. tricalcium phosphate (A) and hydroxyapatite (B), in a ratio A:B of between 20:80 and 70:30, or calcium titanium phosphate (Ca(Ti).sub.4 (PO.sub.4).sub.6) (C), and 60 to 25% by weight of a liquid phase comprising an aqueous solution of a polymer derived from cellulose. The mineral phase is a powder with a particle size 80 to 200 .mu.m in diameter. Preferably, the liquid phase is hydroxypropyl cellulose, and the concentration of the polymer in the liquid phase is from 0.5 to 4% by weight. The composition is prepared by mixing the mineral phase and the polymer of the liquid phase in an aqueous solution of defined viscosity, and sterilizing the liquid composition thus obtained.
