    Abstract: A method for converting an opaque portion of a side-group liquid crystalline polymer body into a transparent portion. The method involves applying sufficient shear force to the polymer body for a sufficient time to convert the opaque portion into a transparent portion. The method provides for erasure of opaque optical pixels from data storage disks without requiring the use of electrical or magnetic fields.
