  • Patent number: 6324488
Abstract: In the case of a process for recognizing the rotating direction of an internal-combustion engine using a crankshaft angle sensor, a camshaft angle sensor and an electronic internal-combustion engine control unit which processes the signals of these two sensors, a certain first crankshaft position, which can be sensed by the crankshaft angle sensor and which exists in the case of a reversely rotating internal-combustion engine, is assigned to a certain camshaft position which can be sensed by the camshaft angle sensor. A certain second crankshaft position, which exists in the case of a forward-rotating internal-combustion engine, is assigned to the same camshaft position. These assignments are stored in the internal-combustion engine control unit so that they can be queried to recognize the rotational direction of the engine.

  • Patent number: 6202634
Abstract: In the case of a process for recognizing the ignition cycle of a defined cylinder during the start of an internal-combustion engine in motor vehicles using a crankshaft angle sensor which interacts with a crankshaft generator gear equipped with teeth and with a reference mark, a camshaft angle sensor for differentiating between the ignition cycle and the exhaust cycle of the cylinders, and an electronic control unit, the high levels and the low levels as well as the descending and the ascending edges of the signal of the camshaft angle sensor are analyzed in the control unit and are related to the signal of the crankshaft sensor.

  • Patent number: 6047683
Abstract: In a process for controlling the fuel injection quantity for an internal-combustion engine in a vehicle via an electronic control unit, the actual angle of the crankshaft is detected and, as a function of the actual angle, of a defined fuel injection time and of a defined injection end angle, the required fuel injection starting angle of the crankshaft or the required injection starting point in time for a certain cylinder is determined. The injection is carried out in a time-controlled manner by triggering an injection valve, which is assigned to the certain cylinder, for the defined fuel injection time to an actual injection end angle. Furthermore, while maintaining the defined injection end angle, a short pulse is defined in the control unit as an additional fuel injection time for the certain cylinder if the actual injection end angle is before the defined injection end angle.
