  • Patent number: 5411054
Abstract: A reciprocating positive displacement compressor is described. The positive displacement compressor has an intake or exhaust valve provided with a deformable seal means, such as a Belleville spring, that makes edge or area contact with a valve seat in the closed condition of the valve.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 16, 1994
Date of Patent: May 2, 1995
    Inventor: Norbert W. Overfield
  • Patent number: 5311902
Abstract: A reciprocating positive displacement compressor is described having an intake or exhaust valve provided with a deformable seal means, such as a Belleville spring, that makes edge or area contact with a valve seat in the closed condition of the valve, is described.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 6, 1992
Date of Patent: May 17, 1994

  • Patent number: 4775299
Abstract: A clearance pocket having a housing attached to a cylinder of the compressor. In one embodiment, in which the housing has a sidewall and a distal wall and includes a clearance chamber with a passageway extending between the cylinder head and the clearance chamber, the pocket also has a piston movably located in the clearance chamber in slidably sealing engagement with the interior sidewall of the housing, and means for providing fluidic communication between the cylinder head and that portion of the clearance chamber between the piston and the distal wall of the housing.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 29, 1986
Date of Patent: October 4, 1988
    Assignee: Cooper Industries, Inc.
Inventors: Norbert W. Overfield, Richard W. Erickson
  • Patent number: 4336781
Abstract: A liquid fuel injection pump having a rotary distributor for unrestricted delivery of metered charges of fuel in succession to the fuel injection nozzles of an associated engine and having a snubber orifice with a snubber port provided either in the distributor stator for each distributor outlet port or in the rotor for the distributor delivery port for transmitting and damping a reverse pressure wave from each fuel injection nozzle back through the distributor.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 28, 1980
Date of Patent: June 29, 1982
    Assignee: Stanadyne, Inc.
    Inventor: Norbert W. Overfield
  • Patent number: 4246876
Abstract: A liquid fuel injection system with a snubber valve assembly with a low cost, four-part snubber valve mounted within a valve body and in addition in a second embodiment a low cost, two-part fuel pressurizing valve mounted within the valve body upstream of the snubber valve.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 19, 1979
Date of Patent: January 27, 1981
    Assignee: Stanadyne, Inc.
Inventors: Gerald R. Bouwkamp, Norbert W. Overfield
  • Patent number: 4201170
Abstract: A diesel fuel injection system having a positive displacement fuel delivery valve with a valve piston with a conventional passage for delivering fuel to injection nozzles and a second more restricted passage at an intermediate axial position of the valve piston for delivering such fuel at lower pumping rates, such as during low speed engine cranking, so that the valve piston is displaced a lesser amount at lower pumping rates and thereby increase the downstream residual fuel pressure when the pumping rate is lower.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 31, 1978
Date of Patent: May 6, 1980
    Assignee: Stanadyne, Inc.
    Inventor: Norbert W. Overfield
