The scattering member is located between the display panel and the diffusion plate with the scattering member located nearer the diffusion plate than the display panel. The diffusion plate has a first incidence surface and a first exit surface. The first incidence surface allows the light emitted from the light source to be incident thereon. The first exit surface is smaller than the display area. The diffusion plate allows the light entered from the first incidence surface to exit from the first exit surface with the light diffused.
