  • Patent number: 7649666
Abstract: An electro-optic display (102), or a sub-assembly of such a display, comprising a layer of electro-optic material (108) on a backplane (100) is assembled using at least one release sheet (112, 116) or masking film having a resistivity not greater than about 1013 ? square. The use of such a release sheet or masking film helps to avoid damage to transistors in the backplane during the assembly process.

  • Patent number: 7268749
Abstract: A method for controlling electrodes in a plasma display panel (815), includes applying a voltage Ve to a sustain electrode during a setting up of the sustain electrode (710) for an addressing operation, where Ve2<Ve. Another method includes a) applying Ve2 to the sustain electrode during the addressing, where the sustain electrode is associated with a scan electrode (714) in an electrode pair, and b) applying a voltage Vs1 to the scan electrode during a discharging of the electrode pair after the addressing, where Ve2<Vs1.

  • Publication number: 20070152913
Abstract: There is provided a method for controlling a pixel in a plasma display. The method includes applying a first voltage to a first electrode, a second voltage to a second electrode, and a third voltage to a third electrode to generate a first plasma discharge of a dischargeable gas in the pixel. The method also includes applying a forth voltage to the first electrode, a fifth voltage to the second electrode, and a sixth voltage to the third electrode to generate a second plasma discharge of the dischargeable gas in the pixel. The first plasma discharge establishes a first wall potential between the first electrode and the third electrode. The second plasma discharge establishes a second wall potential between the first electrode and the third electrode. The second wall potential is offset from the first wall potential. There is also provided a plasma display and a controller that employ the method.

  • Publication number: 20060176249
Abstract: There is provided a method that includes generating a first waveform for a first electrode of a pixel of a plasma display, and generating a second waveform for a second electrode of the pixel. The first waveform includes a first setup waveform and a first sustain waveform, and the second waveform includes a second setup waveform and a second sustain waveform. The first and second setup waveforms are generated during a setup period for setting a wall charge of the pixel, and the first and second sustain waveforms are generated during a sustain period for sustaining a discharge of a gas in a region of the pixel. The first setup waveform attains a voltage that is more positive than a maximum positive voltage of the first sustain waveform, and the second setup waveform attains a voltage that is more negative than a maximum negative voltage of the second sustain waveform. There is also provided a plasma display and a controller that employ the method.
